📚 Growing Together at Deninu School 🌱

Last Friday, our Deninu School staff came together for an In-Service day of professional learning and growth.

We were pleased to welcome our new Superintendent, Renee Cross, and extend our appreciation to Ms. Cora America for leading us through a day of learning focused on strengthening literacy, numeracy, inclusive practices, and supporting the diverse needs of our learners here in Fort Resolution.

As educators, we know that learning never stops. We must continue to feed ourselves with knowledge, so we can continue feeding into the minds, hearts, and futures of our students. ❤️

Thank you to all of our staff for showing up, participating, and continuing to grow together. Our students deserve nothing less. 🍎📖

We are pleased to introduce you to a few new faces here at Deninu school Mr John Paul Vallente.

A message from Mr John Paul Vallente.

I’m JP, and I’m very happy to be part of the school community here in Fort Resolution. I have been teaching for more than 11 years, with experience teaching English Language Arts, and Qualitative and Quantitative Research from high school to university. Before joining the school, I taught various high school and university courses in the Philippines. While in British Columbia, I also worked at a university as a research assistant and teaching assistant, experiences that further deepened my interest in learning, research, and education. Most recently, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hay River, where I gained valuable experience working with students in the Northwest Territories.

I believe that students learn best when they are actively involved in the learning process. My teaching focuses on project-based learning and student-centred activities that encourage students to ask questions, explore ideas, collaborate, create, and connect what they learn in class to their own experiences and the world around them.

Outside the classroom, I enjoy going on nature trips with family and friends, visiting museums, and spending time painting and sketching. I’m excited to meet our students and families, learn more about the community, and grow together as part of the Fort Resolution school community.

We are pleased to introduce you to a few new faces here at Deninu school Mr Mark Limon.

A message from Mr Mark Limon.

I’m Mark, and I’m excited to be joining the school community in Fort Resolution. I’ve been teaching for more than 15 years, working with students from elementary school through university. Over the years, I’ve taught Mathematics, Social Studies, and Home Economics, including Food Studies, Textiles, and Food Safety. Before coming to Fort Resolution, I taught in the Philippines, where I also served as a department chair, supporting both students and fellow teachers. I later worked in the food industry in British Columbia, which gave me valuable hands-on experience that I enjoy bringing into my teaching. Most recently, I taught in Hay River, Northwest Territories, where I further developed my experience working with students in the North.

In my classroom, I believe that some of the best learning happens when students can learn by doing. I enjoy creating hands-on and experiential learning opportunities where students can explore ideas, develop practical skills, and connect what they learn to real-life experiences.

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my three German Shepherds, travelling, trying new food, and doing a little window shopping. I’m looking forward to getting to know my students, colleagues, and the Fort Resolution community!

🌱 Growing Wellness at Our School! 🌱

Our Grade 7–9 students have been getting their hands dirty and learning all about the journey from seed to plant!

Students took the lead in germinating our Tower Garden seedlings, carefully nurturing them as they developed before transplanting them into the hydroponic tower. They also transplanted some seedlings into soil, giving them the opportunity to compare growing in soil versus a hydroponic system and learn how to care for each in its own way.

It has been wonderful to see their patience, teamwork, and care come to life as they watch their plants grow. 🌿💚

A little seed, a little care, and a whole lot of learning!

These moments capture what Amanda does so naturally—meeting students where they are and ensuring they feel supported, encouraged, and valued.

Thank you, Amanda, for always being willing to step in, step up, and put our students first. 💛
