πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ BIG CHANGES ARE COMING TO EXPRESS ENTRY!

IRCC has released its final report on the 2026 public consultations about possible changes to Canada’s Express Entry system.

The timing is significant. Canada wants to attract skilled workers who can help meet its labour needs and support economic growth.

Here are the major changes that have been discussed:

🚩 1. Combining the Three Federal Skilled Worker Programs

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) could be combined into one Federal High Skilled program.

The proposal includes minimum requirements such as a high school education, CLB 6 in language proficiency, and at least one year of skilled work experience.

🚩 2. Changing the CRS Points System

IRCC is considering giving more importance to factors that may better predict a candidate’s economic success in Canada, such as:

- Strong language skills
- Higher earnings
- Canadian work experience
- University education

At the same time, points for having a sibling in Canada and some spousal factors could be reduced.

🚩 3. Giving More Weight to High-Paying Jobs

Candidates with Canadian work experience or job offers in high-paying occupations could receive additional points.

This could also mean bringing back limited CRS points for job offers.

🚩 4. Reviewing Other Factors

IRCC is also considering how to maintain opportunities for skilled trades workers and whether changes are needed to points for age, Canadian education, and professional licences.

What did the consultations reveal?

Many participants supported making Express Entry simpler and focusing more on economic outcomes. However, concerns were raised about ensuring trades workers remain competitive, whether CLB 6 is an appropriate language requirement, and whether focusing mainly on high-paying jobs could overlook occupations facing labour shortages.

⚠️ THE BIG QUESTION: WILL EXPRESS ENTRY DRAWS BE PAUSED?

If IRCC introduces major changes, will it temporarily pause draws while the new system is being developed?

A pause could affect candidates waiting for an Invitation to Apply (ITA), especially those who are close to the CRS cut-off or relying on category-based draws.

However, the proposed reforms do not automatically mean that Express Entry draws will stop. Any pause would depend on what IRCC officially announces and how the changes are implemented.

For now, candidates should avoid making decisions based on proposals alone. The actual announcement, implementation timeline, and impact on CRS scores and category-based draws will be the key details to watch.

πŸ’¬ What do you think? Should IRCC keep the current Express Entry system or introduce a completely redesigned one?
