Remedial Equine Therapy offers Chiropractics/Osteopathy/Massage/Cranial Sacral/Laser Therapy/Acupuncture/Herbals/Homeopathics to our clients. Our horses are athletes as much as we are. When we have physical aches & pains in our bodies, we seek out therapists such as chiropractors, physio therapists and massage therapists. That option is now available for your equine athlete from a practitioner who has the experience and education to look after your horse from head to toe! Shantel Perreal's resume can be found at www.canadianequinetherapyinstitude.com for a full list of her qualifications. Is your horse having problems with:
Picking up leads
Head shaking
Lameness
Behaviour Problems
Bucking
Kicking
Biting
I work closely with all vets, and farriers! Also look at the saddle fit, and your balance.

โ€œEquine Osteopathy is a combination of spinal and extremity joint manipulation, visceral (organ) manipulation and cranio-sacral therapy. The fundamental philosophy of osteopathy is that for the body to be truly healthy and vital, every tissue in the body must have proper mobility, thus affecting flow of blood, lymph and nerve impulses. Osteopathy treats the whole body.โ€
Osteopaths use a broad range of gentle hands-on techniques including soft tissue stretching, deep tactile pressure, and mobilization or manipulation of joints. We do not use any mallets or hammers. I have spent years Studying the Equine Anatomy and I will always be a student! I am not someone that just took a 4 day course and call myself certified! I also have been a human Therapist for over 15yrs. Rehabilitation and physiotherapy for humans was a big part of my life for many years and still will be on the teaching side of things. I travel all over Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, Ont, Yukon

Herbs, Horses & a Little Common Sense!

What if understanding your horse's health was easier than you thought?

If you're anything like me, you've probably spent a small fortune over the years on your horses. Feed, supplements, vitamins, minerals, and the occasional miracle product that promises to turn your horse into a shiny, muscular superstar overnight! LOL!

And you know what? That's part of being a horse owner. We love these big, beautiful, ridiculously expensive animals, and we want to give them the very best.

But have you ever wondered what happens to all those wonderful things we put into their feed buckets? How does the body actually use them, and what makes one product beneficial for one horse but not necessarily another?

Now that's where things get interesting!

There's a Whole Lot Going On Under That Beautiful Coat!

After more than 20 years working as an equine therapist, one thing continues to fascinate me: just how incredibly connected everything is inside the horse.

Think about it. Your horse has an enormous digestive system, billions of microorganisms working away in the hindgut, a nervous system constantly sending messages throughout the body, and organs working around the clock to keep everything functioning.

And somehow we're supposed to figure out what's going on when our horses can't exactly walk up and tell us what's bothering them!

Wouldn't that be nice, though?

"Hey Mom, my hindgut microbes are having a bit of a disagreement today, and while you're at it, could you check my mineral balance?"

Now THAT would make horse ownership a whole lot easier! LOL!

Take the hindgut, for example. It's essentially a massive fermentation system where microorganisms break down fibre and produce volatile fatty acids that provide much of your horse's energy. Pretty impressive little workers, aren't they?

But what happens when that delicate microbial environment becomes disrupted? How might that affect digestion, energy, and the nutrients available to support the rest of the body?

And that's just ONE part of the horse!

Now, Let's Talk About Herbs!

Oh, this is where I could talk for hours!

Herbal medicine has fascinated me for years, particularly when you begin looking beyond what an herb is traditionally used for and start understanding its properties, how it's prepared, and how the body processes its compounds.

There's a whole world of information sitting right under our noses, sometimes growing in our own backyards!

And then there's Traditional Chinese Medicine, which describes herbs using concepts such as warming, cooling, drying, and moistening.

Now, before you imagine wrapping your horse in a blanket and serving him a nice warm cup of herbal tea, that's not quite what we're talking about! LOL!

These traditional descriptions offer another perspective on herbal preparations, although they aren't the same as scientifically established effects.

And here's something important: just because something is natural doesn't automatically make it safe. Some plants are toxic, and others can interact with medications. That's why learning about herbs means understanding the precautions as well as their potential benefits.

What About the Liver?

Now there's an organ that certainly doesn't get enough appreciation!

Your horse's liver is busy processing nutrients, producing important proteins, making bile, and metabolizing many substances entering the body.

When you start connecting digestion, nutrition, herbs, and liver function, you begin to appreciate just how much teamwork is happening inside your horse.

It's almost like running a business. Everyone has a job to do, and when one department gets into trouble, the others may have to pick up the slack!

And trust me, I've run a business long enough to know exactly how that works! LOL!

So, Why Did I Create Herbs Made Simple for Horse Owners?

With my background in equine therapy, holistic nutrition, and a Master's in Herbal Medicine, I wanted to create something that would make learning about herbal medicine interesting, practical, and understandable for everyday horse owners.

Not something where you need a medical dictionary beside you just to get through the first lesson!

I wanted to share the knowledge I've gathered over the years and help people make more informed decisions about their horses' health.

Of course, anyone who knows me will probably laugh when I say I intended to keep this course short.

That didn't exactly happen!

Once I start teaching and connecting the dots, I have a hard time stopping. Before I knew it, I'd packed the course with far more information than originally planned!

And I'm pretty excited to share it with you.

HERBS MADE SIMPLE FOR HORSE OWNERS

What if we stopped looking at our horses as a collection of symptoms?

A cough isnโ€™t always just a โ€œlung problem.โ€
Stiffness isnโ€™t always just a muscle problem.

A nervous horse doesnโ€™t always need a calming herb.

And sometimes, the best solution doesnโ€™t come in a bag at all.

Holistic horse health is about learning to look at the whole horse โ€” digestion, nutrition, movement, pain, the nervous system, environment, lifestyle and history โ€” and then asking the most important question:

Why is this happening?

Herbs can be wonderful tools for supporting your horse, but they work best when we understand why we are using them and where they fit into the bigger picture.

Thatโ€™s exactly what we explore in our new course:

Herbs Made Simple for Horse Owners

A practical, easy-to-understand introduction to herbal support that helps you become a more informed observer of your horse and make better decisions about when and how herbs may fit into their care.

And to celebrate the launch, weโ€™re offering $50 OFF your first month.

If youโ€™ve ever wanted to understand herbs without feeling overwhelmed by complicated terminology, this course is a great place to start.

Learn the herbs. Understand the horse. Look at the whole picture.

This image is a powerful reminder of how superficial the facial and trigeminal nerves truly are.
Understanding where these nerves lie is essential to avoid causing damage during treatment.
Knowledge isnโ€™t optionalโ€”itโ€™s the responsibility we carry when working with horses.

Share this post to spread awareness about safe, anatomy-based practice.

Without proper knowledge of depth and anatomy, force becomes harmful rather than therapeutic. True movement comes from precision, not power. Education protects the horse. Anatomy guides the hands.

๐Ÿ“Save this post if you believe skill should always come before force.
