New music from PIllow Fite out today!
Their latest single, “Lucky,” explores the city and the communities that can both empower and frustrate. Ross states, "I love writing about the spaces no one else writes about, especially the complicated parts of life that don't fit into neat boxes.” The intention of the lyrics is to create the sensation of uncomfortable eye contact from across the bar. There is an exploration of the perceived nudge that community gives members to stay on a moral line. For Ross, that means that sometimes love and frustration end up speaking the exact same language.
“Lucky” was written on a Wednesday night while Art Ross and Aaron Green were hanging out on Aaron's couch when a discussion led them to write a brand new song. Typically the duo writes with two acoustic guitars. For this track, however, they immediately felt it needed some heft. The messy power chord riff reflected the momentum of writing.
The duo channeled some Le Tigre-esque fuzz sounds and wanted the chorus to open up and hit hard, like classic Paramore songs. Ross takes pride in the lyrical candour and bravery of the track. “Lucky has the space to make your own adventure. I hope the listener is putting on their smallest top and listening to Lucky on the way to do something brave.”
Pillow Fite is currently on tour across Canada.

Trance and Awe from Jing Xia available August 21, 2026!
Jing Xia’s sophomore album was inspired by ancient Confucian philosophy, which holds that humans are born with seven core emotions—Joy, Anger, Sorrow, Fear, Love, Hatred, and Desire (喜、怒、哀、惧、爱、恶、欲). Each track on Trance and Awe explores a different feeling. Xia leads listeners on a journey, allowing space for personal reflection, as she deftly tackles each emotion with a sense of openness and acceptance.
The album is a fusion of styles and cultures, featuring guest musicians such as Aaron Collis of Rum Ragged, and percussionists Persio Dominguez and Andrew Kagumba. From “Joy – The Dance,” a celebration of Newfoundland and Labrador’s spirit through the blending of traditional East Coast music with contemporary guzheng, to “Hatred – The Bridge” with its fusion of rhythms from the Dominican Republic, Uganda, and China, Xia expresses the universality of emotions. Like music, emotions are shared by all cultures.
“Harmony – The One”, the album’s focus track, brings the journey full circle, weaving the seven core emotions explored throughout the album into a harmonious resolution. The final track has a balanced energy, letting the album’s residue gently settle. Xia creates an emotional journey which challenges listeners to move away from denying or supressing emotions to embracing them while moving toward inner harmony.

While the first single off the album, “Love -The Breeze” captures the lightness of love, “Hatred - The Bridge,” captures the heart pumping, all consuming nature of the emotion. The album, Trance and Awe (August 2026) is a fusion of styles and cultures, featuring several guest musicians, including percussionists Persio Dominguez and Andrew Kagumba who appear on “Hatred-The Bridge.” This is the only track with vocalizations which serves to highlight the emotion’s intensity and also its humanness. With a blend of rhythms from the Dominican Republic, Uganda and China, the track showcases that coming together, especially through music can be the antidote to the fear and lack of knowledge often found at the root of the emotion. This musical dialogue between cultures illustrates that communication and compassion, especially through sharing music, can be the route to resolution.

NEW MUSIC from Pillow Fite!
Hard Feelings, Soft Promises Deluxe Edition is an impression of a year consisting of escapism, frustration, and infatuation. The album includes five new tracks, including two demos cut from the original album as well as a live version of “Laundromats”, which reached #5 on the CBC National countdown. The band let the songs be what they wanted to be and the result is an authentic, evolving sound that resonates with audiences. They will headline the Annapolis Royal Pride Show on July 4th. There's still time for a road trip!

I’d work with artists who are already creating momentum, and help amplify it.
I’d prioritize communication and work ethic as much as talent when deciding who to work with.
I’d connect activity with strategy. Every post, release, and show would serve a purpose.
I’d build the business alongside the art so both can scale together.
We’d build a small, accountable team where everyone knows their role and delivers reliably.
We’d build audience and data ownership early instead of focusing on growing numbers for other platforms.
Ten years ago I was making all my bets based on believing in the music. Now I know it's just as important - if not more important - to believe in the people making and supporting the music, and their ability to follow through.
