Ann Lowe created one of the most iconic wedding gowns in American history, yet the world barely knew her name. From segregated classrooms to becoming the first Black designer with a couture salon on Madison Avenue, Ann Lowe dressed American royalty including the Rockefellers, du Ponts, Roosevelts, and Jacqueline Bouvier. When a burst pipe destroyed Jackie Kennedy’s bridal gown and nine bridesmaid dresses just 10 days before the wedding, Lowe absorbed the massive loss, worked around the clock, and remade every single stitch from scratch. When she delivered them to Newport, she was told to use the service entrance. She refused: either the dresses and Lowe went in the front door, or they went back to New York. The front doors opened. Despite front-page headlines across the globe, the press erased her credit, referring to her only as a “colored dressmaker.” Ann Lowe was a master of American couture. unshakable, exceptionally gifted, and long overdue for her flowers. Saturday at the Crowfest Chatham-Kent was a day and a half. We led with the K-POP tribute on the main stage then ran down the street to the "Garden on King/The Rock" to Host the Costume Contest. Our stage manager Maureen was amazing; she registered all the contestants and was on site for the set-up for when our judges and I arrived.
Our guest judges Courtney Herfst; Chantelle Wigle; River Pfaff; Victoria Buding; and Paul Zappitelli were all decked out, and ready to welcome all the contestant. Out Master of Ceremony, Geoff MacDonald and I, Linda Creswick arrived and we were ready to go.
We were all impressed with the level of creativity, everyone obviously challenged their ability and imagination. They were all happy and supportive of each other and made for such a wonderful presentation for all of us.
Our photographer Brian D Photography never disappoints, and captures the fun and atmosphere of our event regardless of the circumstances. My appreciation and thanks to you all, and to the manager and staff at the Garden on King for accommodating us last minute.

Bryan Ferry — Don’t Stop the Dance Released in 1985 on Bryan Ferry’s album Boys and Girls, “Don’t Stop the Dance” was co-written by Ferry and Rhett Davies. The track perfectly captures Ferry’s mid-’80s sound: sophisticated, nocturnal and slightly mysterious, built around a hypnotic rhythm, atmospheric keyboards and his unmistakably restrained vocal. One of the song’s most distinctive elements is the saxophone played by legendary jazz musician David Sanborn. The elegant black-and-white music video added to its cinematic mood, featuring French model Laurence Treil. “Don’t Stop the Dance” became one of Ferry’s signature solo recordings — less about a conventional pop hook and more about creating an atmosphere that still sounds remarkably modern four decades later.
