Exodus

The Spirit of God creates the Church. However, we must add something else: the Church is born and grows by the announcement of the Gospel. The first community arises from the outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost, but also stems from the proclamation of the Good News of Salvation. The word "Church" etymologically means "convocation": the Church is the community of those summoned by the Word of God. Just as that in the beginning God created everything by His Word (Gen 1), the new humanity of recreated in Christ is raised by the Word that God speaks through His messengers. Without the Gospel Church is not born, nor grow, nor can it continue to exist. Evangelization is the permanent foundation of the church building.
