Chickens make great pets and can be trained to instill peace, harmony and contentment in humans

Therapy Chickens with H Gibson, Author of The Chronicles of Han book series
It started with two, then two more, and now we are sharing this love with the world. Our chickens are confident and docile, loving human attention, interacting joyfully and give cuddles too.

Muscovy ❤️
It still amazes me how well their camouflage works. Some days we play "find the Muscovy".

Legolas the day he became blind. This fellow is a beloved friend. He walked into the coop one day as if he was just a part of my flock and stayed to become a main breeding rooster.
Friendly and talkative, expecting cuddles and demanding them by standing in front of you.
But old age catch up with them and he broke a leg last year when his one eye lost sight due to an injury.
He was placed in his own pen until he stopped eating.
I brought him outside and he would not move, then realized he went blind.
I taught him to feel for his bowls and moved him into the nursery.
Here one of my mini hens decided she would become his guide, showing him where the food was.
It is a new and beautiful relationship forming.
Legolas is an integral part of Therapy Chickens

Next generation: inmate edition (and some retired old ladies)
Story: the chicks are now independent as the moms abandoned them. They are still too small to join the flock thus can inly go out in pens when the weather permits. Some boys are kept in their own pens to grow in peace without competition from siblings.

One eyed "Cotton Bud" enjoying looking for bugs in the mud. Cotton lost her eye due to an injury. Apart from being a bit nervous on the blind side, she is a healthy, normally functioning hen running with the retiree flock.
Therapy Chickens has several blind and vision impaired birds.

The oldies. "Granny" Night Fury, Misty and Peggy. Not impressed with the wet weather.

RIP Dorito, my special little friend.
The reality of death.
The transition from being captured in flesh to bring released back to the world of spirit.
Nothing shows this more clearly than having pet chickens.
Especially those who live out their lives in your care.
When their time draws near and they slow down, they wish to isolate. Mostly with a close friend and/or the primary caregiver.
And in this loving, supported environment they release their bodies.
I've had other pets, including horses, but none makes death feel so noble, uncomplicated, peaceful.
Fly high my feathered friends.
Your mommy miss you all.

King David passed unexpectedly. He is missed by all of us, especially his best friends and his favourite hens. Rest well my chocolate box rooster.

"Legolas" my golden boy. He came to me like so many of my original flock members. Just showing up at the coop gate, demanding to be let in. A lost little teenager without a flock. He grew up, becoming one of the foundation roosters. After his broken leg he is now retired, living the life of a special friend with many cuddles.
