Formerly known as Lobatse Mental Hospital, Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital has been named after Dr Giuseppe Sbrana who was from Italy.

He was the first Psychiatric Specialist to work in Botswana from 1969. The naming of the hospital is in recognition and appreciation of the contribution and legacy of the late Dr Sbrana to development of mental health in Botswana. Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital (SPH) staff members gathered together as a united front on the 10th September 2025, to commemorate the international su***de prevention day.
