There is a significant group of Canadian lawyers present who appear to be quite amenable to participating in CLA committees, hubs, and initiatives and CLC Malta.

Miguel and I did important drafting and training in East Timor to establish the bar association of East Timor about a decade and a half ago. It was remarkable that interest in the CLA and CLC Malta was expressed by lawyers qualified in civil and common law jurisdictions.

At the 40th annual ICC FraudNet conference in Puebla, Mexico, our partner, Jason T. Maynard, discussed key challenges in digital asset recovery including, navigating complex international regulations, proving ownership, and enforcing judgments across decentralised platforms. With fluctuating digital asset values and evolving fraud tactics, effective recovery requires stronger legal frameworks and enhanced cross-border cooperation.

Quite a group of CLA members are attending the IBA Annual Conference in Mexico City. Some of us met on the first full day of the Conference, Monday 16 September 2024, at the LexisNexis Exhibition Booth, (from right to left) Ian McDougall of LexisNexis, Jaideep Gupta, Joanne Anthony-Gooden, me, David Greene, Justin Amenuvor and Jason Maynard. Some members were meeting each other in person for the first time except on Zoom. During their networking here, they were urged to encourage lawyers to come to CLC Malta 6-10 April 2025 and in the meantime to join and participate in CLA committees, hubs and entities. As the CLA sponsor, LexisNexis kindly accommodated us for this CLA meet and greet. It was also good to see Ian who is transitioning to President of the LexisNexis Rule of Law Foundation and other roles. Nigel Roberts who worked closely with the CLA, was missed as he retired earlier this year. CLA members shall meet again in the course of this very busy conference week.
