The online OCCBA mid year retreat is all set for this coming Saturday July 20, 2024 starting at 9:00 am EC time.

There will be 2 informative CLE presentations from The Hon. B. St. Michael Hylton, O.J., K.C. on important constitutional matters as well as Ms. Camille Garrison on legal aspects of Artificial intelligence.

The OCCBA Distinguished Awards will be presented to the Hon. Richard Mahfood, K.C. of Jamaica and Mrs. Stephanie Daly, S.C. of Trinidad & Tobago.

The Barbados Bar Association is proud to Support Council Member and Convener of its Criminal Law Committee, Martie Garnes Attorney-at-Law who attended The First Legal Conference on Criminal Justice Reform - Advancing Needham’s Point Declaration, held in Georgetown Guyana. The Conference was hosted by the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney General’s Chambers of Guyana in association with the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) Academy of Law.

The Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA) welcomes Richard Clayton KC, Desiree Artesi and Louise di Mambro OBE to discuss “Handling Privy Council Appeals”, with the CLA’s Council member for Gibraltar, Lloyd DeVincenzi to moderate.

Reasons for the establishment of the CCAT.

Staff members of Community Institutions can not obtain redress under the original jurisdiction of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).

The CCAT would also provide legal certainty to staff of the Secretariat and the Community Institutions as to the law that would govern their employment contracts.

What is CCAT?

The CCAT is an impartial and independent judicial body for the adjudication of any employment disputes between CARICOM Secretariat and CARICOM Institutions.

THE CCAT is competent to adjudicate upon any grievance or complaint by a member of staff of the CARICOM Secretariat or Eligible Institutions who alleges the breach of, or failure to observe, the contract of employment or their terms of appointment or provisions of the applicable Staff Rules and Regulations.
