Revisiting a recently completed project โ a gym for Mernda Hill Christian College.
Designed with functionality, aesthetics, and longevity in mind, the space was built to support an active school community.
More than just a sports facility, it's a place where students move, compete, and grow together. Proud to have delivered a space that will serve its community for years to come.

Another look at Mernda Hills Christian College, Early Learning Centre โ this time, stepping outside.
The landscape was thoughtfully designed to spark curiosity and imagination in the littlest of learners.
From winding pathways and a timber playhouse to a sandpit, synthetic lawn, shade sails, and a connecting bridge โ every element encourages exploration, play, and discovery in a safe and nurturing outdoor environment.
A space where childhood memories are made.

The new gym at Mernda Hills Christian College is the latest in a lineup of sports and recreation facilities in the KDA portfolio. Whilst we have the basic design of a gym down to a science, we always seek to look beyond mere utility and push the envelope a little more with each iteration.
We decided to accentuate the building's sculptural presence to create a new campus landmark. This was achieved with an unexpected bullnosed skillion roof and verandahs which soften the often-severe form of school gyms. The curved design language continues internally with coved wall-to-ceiling transitions and reappears in the smallest details such as in the corners of benchtops and flooring transitions.
The materiality is honest, tactile, and hardwearing. The monochromatic exterior gives way to an interior of warm timber and woodwool panelling, relieved by the occasional pop of colour that doubles as a wayfinding element.

Mernda Hills Christian College has been on another expansion spree, with the most recent addition being its Early Learning Centre.
Equipped with 4 generous childrenโs rooms, the Early Learning Centre is poised to serve the burgeoning population of Mernda for decades to come. Pairing soft colours with timber grained surfaces, the interiors create a sense of calm and warmth for both children and staff.
Externally, the ELC wraps itself around a central courtyard playground, allowing children to feel protected while being nurtured in a playful and educational environment.
