On Saturday I had a day off, after the change of date for the women's premier division Grand Finals. So what did I end up doing? I headed to Kings Park Reserve to shoot more Essendon District Football League footy!

Three games were played:

18.5 Div 1 Preliminary Final:

Moonee Valley FC (5.6.36) def by West Coburg Football Club (6.5.41)
This game was hotly contested across the four quarters, but it was Valley who got out of the gates with a 3 goal break at quarter time. Whatever was in the burgers eaten at quarter time, West Coburg came out firing, scoring 3 goals quickly on the second term and then taking the lead by the third term break. From there it was an arm wrestle and the Burgers managed a 5 points win.

Mens Div 1 Reserves Preliminary Final

West Coburg Football Club (15.13.103) d Moonee Valley FC (5.5.35)
This match was tight with scores level at 33 a piece at half time, but once again with burgers on the menu at half time, West Coburg came out firing, kicking 10 goals while restricting the Valley to only 2 points going on to win by 68 points.

Mens Div 1 Preliminary Final

West Coburg Football Club (20.14.134) d Oak Park Football Club (9.8.62)

This was touted to be a classic in the making, but West Coburg had other ideas, dominating all facets of play across the four quarters, while defensively shutting down Oak Parks normal silky transition play, while being lethal in front of goal themselves winning by a massive 72 points.

Well done to West Coburg for winning all three games across the day and showing they are a club that really has their teams performing at the right time of year!

EDFL Men's Div 1 Qualifying Finals Photo collection by Moments By Shaun

As I sit in front of the laptop to continue editing images from yesterday's 2026 Essendon District FL Women's Premier Division Grand Finals - I come across this image I deliberately exposed while sitting in the shadows of the stands at Windy Hill. It's a tad different to the usual action shot I capture, but I am really happy with how it turned out.

I just received an email....

It was announcing that out of the 5 photos I entered into the International Photography Awards I was awarded second place for the image depicting Melbourne Vixens GF celebrations after their 2025 victory against the West Coast Fever.

Thank you to Netball Scoop for giving me the opportunity to photograph such an amazing sport and one I truly love to play, watch and shoot.

I was also awarded three honourable mentions for 'Stan the Man's, 'Light Speed Ironman' and 'Out of the Fire and into the Light'.

Now all I need to do is somehow save up some money to afford flights to Athens so I can attend the awards ceremony and the opening of the IPA exhibition.

I'm still in shock at this, as I honestly didn't expect any of my work to be recognised like this....but it's pretty cool all the same!!

Thanks IPA for the opportunity to show my work to the world.

I've created a massive gallery from the weekend's first set of senior Essendon District Football League grand finals.

First up was Point Cook Football Club - Official v Ascot Vale Panthers Junior Football Club/West Coburg Football Club

This was a game where both teams played at an intensity worthy of any grand finale, and the girls showed amazing skill and physicality throughout! Ascot Vale/West Coburg went into the first break with a small lead, but from there on Point Cook took control of the match, going on to win by 26 points

Next up was the main dance as minor premiers Westmeadows Football Club took on Burnside Heights Football Club and given the results of their previous game, this was tipped to be a close affair.

The Tigers stingy defense kept the Bears scoreless to half time but were also well held to only 10 points at the main break. The third term saw a resurgent Burnside, and they were only 2 points behind at the final break. Unfortunately, a raft of injuries hampered the Bears chances, while Westmeadows steadied and went on to be undefeated for the season and the 2026 EDFL Women's Div 1 Premiers winning by 14 points.

The weekend was massive with the culmination of months of blood sweat and tears among some of the most talented junior footballers in Victoria, came to a conclusion with Essendon District Football League junior finals been played at Coburg City Oval on Sunday.

First up was the U14 Div 2 Mixed where Pascoe Vale Football Club 5.3.33 d West Coburg Football Club 2.8.20

Next was the U14 Div 1 Mixed where Strathmore Football Club 7.6.48 d Keilor Football Club 5.13.43 in overtime.

Then in the Boys U16 Div 2 Strathmore 10.11.71 d Deer Park FC 5.10.40

And last were the Boys U16 Div 1 where Aberfeldie Sports Club 8.11.59 d Keilor 5.6.36.

Hey everyone out there in Essendon District Football League world! I've belatedly created a gallery for three games I had the opportunity to photograph on Saturday.

First up was the Div 1 U19s where I managed to capture some shots of Oak Park Football v Point Cook Football Club - Official at Merrifield.

Next up was the Women's Div 1 Preliminary Final between Burnside Heights Football Club v Keilor Park Football Club

Last but not least was Craigieburn Football Club-AFL playing host to West Coburg Football Club where top spot was on the line for the Burgers and Craigeburn were playing to keep their spot in the 4.
