THE HUXLEYS: RADICAL JOY
MARS Gallery is proud to present ‘Radical Joy’, a selection of works that celebrate joy as a necessary choice in dark times for Sydney Contemporary 2026.
The Huxleys’ shining lightboxes and photographs of glittering figures amidst streaming coloured light attest that q***r and trans bodies are luminous in their existence. Happiness is not passive state, it is an intentional form of resistance in a complicated and tumultuous world. Their companion series Radical Romance in the MARS stockroom enters the intimate dark to explore q***r eroticism as sacred language, drawing from a lineage of q***r erotic photography.
The Huxleys are presenting an unmissable opening night spectacle on Art Night, Thursday 3 September, along with an artist talk from 12pm-12:20pm on Saturday 5 September.

MARS is delighted to present new works by Kohl Tyler for this year’s Sydney Contemporary!
Kohl Tyler’s new series of ceramics draw from non-human creatures and artifacts that offer glimpses into now-forgotten ancient realms. Questioning gaps in evolutionary knowledge, Kohl considers the joy and meaning that can be found in positioning oneself across this ancient timeline and our collective speculative futures.
On Saturday 5 September from 2pm-2:20pm, join Kohl for an artist talk on world-building in sculptural ceramics.

We’re delighted to be exhibiting solo exhibitions by J Davies, Ayman Kaake and Kye Archie Knight until September 5th.
J Davies’ ‘Evolving’ J’s photographs are housed within a constellation of pre-loved frames gathered from friends, whānau, op shops, and roadside discoveries. Ornate, sentimental, kitsch, elegant, and occasionally absurd, they arrive carrying their own histories. Together they create an installation that feels less like a gallery and more like a home.
Ayman Kaake’s ‘Stones Will Remain Stones’ draws from lived experience within patriarchal systems across the SWANA region, examining the social, religious, and political forces that shape q***r existence.
Kyle Archie Knight’s ‘It Felt Like My Body Was a Weapon (I Couldn’t Help It)’ aims to examine the gay male gaze, while catering to it, performing it, and questioning it.

We’re delighted to announce MARS artist Diego Ramirez’s inclusion in NEW26 at ACCA.
NEW26 presents the work of seven outstanding artists from across the country, at the forefront of contemporary art practice. This exhibition captures the pulse of creative practice now, bringing together distinct bodies of work that reflect, question, and reshape artistic and social preoccupations of our time.
Spanning painting, moving image, ceramics, sound, installation, writing and architectural intervention, NEW26 engages with some of the defining questions of our current moment, including the accelerating influence of technology and AI, identity and subjectivity, the ongoing legacies of colonialism, the continuing expressive potential of traditional art mediums, the roles and responsibilities of cultural institutions.
The exhibition runs 18 September – 22 November, 2026. Congratulations Diego!

MARS Gallery has proudly worked with artist Atong Atem for over 8 years. In that time, we have exhibited Atong nationally and internationally, achieving significant milestones and successes together.
We are incredibly proud of everything Atong has achieved and grateful to have been part of this chapter, and we extend our sincere gratitude to every curator, collector, and supporter whose commitment has been integral to our shared journey with Atong over the past decade.
We wish her every success with her new commercial gallery representation and upcoming endeavours. MARS loves the art journey!

Congratulations to Jenna (Mayilema) Lee, winner of the Telstra NATSIAA 2026 Work on Paper Award.
Presented by the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (Museum & Art Gallery of the NT) in Darwin, the award honours exceptional contemporary Indigenous artworks created on paper, including photography, printmaking, and drawing.
We congratulate Jenna on this significant achievement!

We are delighted to present solo exhibitions by J Davies, Ayman Kaake and Kyle Archie Knight opening this Wednesday, at MARS until September 5th.
J Davies’ Evolving explores q***r and trans existence, reimagining kinship and reshaping intimacy to create a space where care, pleasure, humour and joy can flourish. J’s photographs are housed within a constellation of pre-loved frames gathered from friends, whānau, op shops, and roadside discoveries. Ornate, sentimental, kitsch, elegant, and occasionally absurd, they arrive carrying their own histories. Together they create an installation that feels less like a gallery and more like a home.
Ayman Kaake’s, ‘Stone Will Remain Stones’ draws from lived experience within patriarchal systems across the SWANA region, examining the social, religious, and political forces that shape q***r existence. The works reflect on the pressures placed upon q***r bodies to perform socially sanctioned roles, where acceptance is often conditional and authenticity carries profound personal consequences.
Kyle Archie Knight’s second solo exhibition at MARS, ‘It Felt Like My Body Was a Weapon (I Couldn’t Help It)’, aims to examine the gay male gaze, while catering to it, performing it, and questioning it. The exhibition is a culmination of gay experience, particularly within gay internet culture, whereby salacious imagery is often mistakenly interpreted as a warrant for sexual advancement. Objects of lust, the act of cruising, and the tension between wanting to be desired, while not expressly handing it over are explored within the subsequent works.
