Vela House | Preston

A sail-like ceiling sweeps across the interior, drawing light deep into the plan and shaping how every space feels. Compressed heritage rooms heighten the release into an open living volume where richness and restraint coexist.

Curved joinery, monolithic stone and seamless junctions establish a consistent language throughout. Full-height glazing connects seamlessly to a north-facing garden and pool, positioning the extension as the functional and social heart of the home.

A single sculptural gesture transforms the dwelling and anchors it to contemporary living.

We're hiring a Project Architect.

Apartments, mixed-use and commercial - the kind of buildings where fire engineering, essential services and half a dozen consultants all have to land in one set of drawings.

What makes it different here: planning, architecture and interiors sit in the same studio. You'll work alongside the planners who won the permit, rather than inheriting a scheme as a PDF and reverse-engineering the intent.

Three or more years in an Australian practice, advanced Revit, and depth in the typologies above. We weight what you've delivered over years served. ARBV registration supported.

The Rosanna Precinct, completed for Homes Victoria. A six-storey mixed-use building on a former brownfield site adjacent to Rosanna station, delivering 45 social and affordable apartments for those who need them most.

Designed to a 5 Star Green Star standard, with a NatHERS average of 7.3 stars, full all-electric services and solar PV. A building that performs as well as it looks.

If good design gets you thinking - about how a space feels, how materials age, why one layout works and another doesn't - we'd like to hear from you. CKA Studio is looking for an interior designer ready to take on more ownership of their work.

You'll develop interior packages across a range of project types, working closely with our senior team as you build the experience and trust to run more of a project yourself. You'll be exposed to the full arc of a project, work directly with consultants, clients, and contractors, and have real input into design outcomes rather than just ex*****on.

A restrained palette carries through every room, soft stone and render, arched mirrors, travertine. Skylights punctuate the plan throughout, drawing natural light deep into the footprint and elevating the material restraint into something considered rather than austere.

The vertical rhythm of the facade continues inside, reappearing in the stair as blackened steel treads and balustrade, structure standing in for skin. Behind it, a blockwork parti wall grounds the space in raw texture, while an internal garden threads greenery and light through the base of the stair, softening the material palette without losing its edge.

The ground floor reads as solid panelling, private and grounded, while above it opens into a fine metal framework, filtering light and view. Nestled among established trees, the façade sits back from the street for most of the year, only fully revealed once the canopy drops in autumn.
