CIFS - Cult Information & Family Support
CIFS - The Australian Cult Information and Family Support network. CIFS is an Australian support and information network.
CIFS was initially formed by parents and family members of loved ones caught up in abusive groups. The network has grown to include families, friends, former members and concerned individuals working together towards a common goal, to provide support and develop awareness for those affected by high demand groups or cultic relationships.
This weekend we completed another successful retreat for survivors of high control groups or cults. The group was on the smaller side with nine attendees but the discussion and the group dynamic was fantastic.
Some feedback from attendees included comments such as:
"I attended the retreat led by Tore and Renee over the weekend and OMG it was amazing....I wish all second generation survivors could do this!"
or "I grew up being told to be scared of people on the outside, and then I spent a weekend with you and felt safer than I have in ages...I'm feeling lighter and a lot less alone."
and "I have found some tools to navigate many issues that we went over in the course, so validating...hearing stories of trauma but still being able to have a laugh through it all was amazing"
We at CIFS have been running these workshops since 2015 annually, always with glowing feedback, and always the comment and question as to why more people don't attend.
Don't miss out next year!

What we still get wrong about how people from non-Western backgrounds recover from trauma Western PTSD treatments typically focus on talking to a therapist about your feelings and emotions. But this doesn’t actually help everyone.

Hi All, it's on again...bear in mind that almost everyone is a bit wary of attending a new group. Here is a quote from one of our attendees last year. "I have attended three CIFS retreats and although the content is familiar, I gain something new each time. Initially, I felt quite apprehensive about attending a group weekend because I had been harmed by a group in the past. As it turned out, it was the most healing boost to my recovery to date."
