Ever heard the phrase...
"Don't worry, he's friendly!" ๐
Today, Merlin came with me to the post office while I dropped off your orders. As I was collecting a few empty boxes, I noticed another dog standing in the doorway. Merlin was showing signs that he wasn't comfortable, so I did what I always encourage others to doโI created distance. We were around 6 metres away.
In a split second, the other dog rushed towards us on a retractable leash, stopping only when it reached the end of the lead about a metre from Merlin.
I stepped in front of Merlin and calmly asked the owner if she could pull her dog back.
"It's okay, he's friendly."
I explained that Merlin is reactive, particularly around larger dogs.
"Oh, he gets along with every dog!"
I politely replied that unfortunately, Merlin doesn't.
As she started winding the leash back in, her dog suddenly began lunging and barking at Merlin. We moved further back into the post office until they left.
When we later walked back to the car, the same dog & handler approached us again and once again lunged and barked. After I'd safely loaded Merlin into the car, the owner came over without her dog and asked why dogs react that way and how to tell when they don't like each other.
What could have been a frustrating encounter became a positive conversation about reading canine body language and understanding that not every dog wants to meet every other dog.
Just because one dog is friendly doesn't mean the other dog is comfortable.
๐ If your dog needs space, don't feel guilty asking for it.
๐ If someone asks you to call your dog back, please do it. They're advocating for not just their dog, but yours too.
Distance is kindness.

A couple of years ago, one of our customers purchased the ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ด ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ด๐ 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle from us. They only recently sat down to complete it, only to discover there was ๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐บ๐ถ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด... after finishing almost the entire puzzle. ๐
They had planned on framing it, so we reached out to our supplier in the UK hoping they might have a spare piece. Unfortunately, the puzzle is now out of print, so there were no replacement pieces available.
So... there was only one thing left to do. ๐
I opened my own copy of the puzzle and started putting it together so I can send them the missing piece!
I'm about halfway through now. Andrew did try to help... but let's just say we have very different puzzling techniques. ๐คฃ He grabs random pieces and hopes for the best, while I'm over here hunting down ears, eyeballs, snouts and tongues before slowly connecting them all together.
This has to be one of the trickiest puzzles I've ever tackled. Every piece is the same shape, and when you're looking at 128 different dog breeds, some of those faces start looking very similar! ๐๐
I'm determined to have it finished by the end of the week so our customer can finally complete and frame theirs. โค๏ธ

๐พ Our VIPs (Very Important Pups) had an absolute blast checking out the new agility tunnel, Sniff Zone, and scent garden today! ๐
Did you know our shop is located within a fully fenced yard? That means your dog can safely explore off lead in a private space, with no unfamiliar dogs and no risk of unwanted interactions.
Our scent garden is filled with dog-friendly plants including lavender, snapdragons, marigolds, and thyme, while our Sniff Zone features a ball pit, sandpit, sniff pots, a circus tent, dog-friendly herbs, and our brand new agility tunnel for adventurous pups to enjoy.
Whether your dog loves to sniff, explore, play, or simply take things at their own pace, we've created a calm and enriching environment just for them.
