George Hetrel
It is with great sadness that we learned today that George Hetrel recently passed away at the age of nearly 95. George was a well respected historic racing driver, with his beloved 1927 Bugatti Type 35C. Additionally he was well known for the 20 years that he and his wife Pat opened their beautiful gardens to the public at Como Gardens in The Basin, and gave generously to many community organisations, but he was also the Patron of the VFT from 2006 until 2024, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and advice gained over many years of involvement with motorsport, both here in Australia and overseas. During his years as Patron, George and Pat generously invited the club to use their beautiful property for our Christmas party each year and as well as enjoying their magnificent gardens, members were able to ride on the delightful steam/diesel train that ran around the property, and view George’s amazing collection of cars and memorabilia.
George was such a kind hearted, warm and friendly man and he was so proud to be associated with our club. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and our deepest sympathies go to Pat and their families. Rest in Peace.
