Here are 7 fertility and women's health breakthroughs from 2026 that are giving me hope ✨️
As a fertility nurse, I spend a lot of time cutting through misinformation and fear-based content online. So today I thought I'd do something different by sharing some things that have happened this year that are moving things forward for women trying to conceive, navigating endo, PMOS, pregnancy loss, or just trying to feel heard by the healthcare system...
Swipe across to learn more about each one!

Because things are CHANGING 🩷
PCOS got a new name!
After 11 years of global research by Monash University, PCOS was officially renamed PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome).
Why does this give me hope? A more accurate name means better understanding, earlier diagnosis and way less confusion for the 1 in 10 women living with it!
I'm a sucker for IVF stats 😍
The Australian and New Zealand Assisted Reproduction Database (ANZARD) looks at the key milestones, trends and success in Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART) and they've just released their most recent data from 2024!
Some key things to know:
• 113,000 IVF cycles were completed
• More than 29,900 babies were born following ART treatment.
• The live birth rate per embryo transfer continues to increase
• Single embryo transfers continue to increase, supporting a low multiple birth rate
This gives me hope seeing how this space is constantly changing and giving so many people the option to start a family that may not have been able to without it! I honestly just love science 🔬🧫
Finally, somewhere to go when considering IVF add ons!
The University of Melbourne, launched a free website comparing actual evidence behind IVF "optional extras"...things like medications, procedures, and on technologies you might hear about or get offered. Evidence-based IVF
This gives me hope as there's so much information online but now you can finally see what's backed my evidence versus what's not and help you feel fully inf

Timing s*x during your fertile window is key to getting pregnant… so why is it SO hard to get right?
Because your fertile window isn't necessarily the same dates every month.
And no… ovulation doesn't always happen on day 14. 🙃
Your cycle can vary.
Ovulation can shift.
Stress, illness, travel, breastfeeding, PCOS/PMOS and other factors can all influence your cycle.
And if you're relying solely on an app predicting your “fertile days”… you could be getting the timing completely wrong.
This is why understanding your body's fertility signs can be so valuable.
• Cervical mucus can change as ovulation approaches.
• LH testing can help identify the hormonal surge that typically happens before ovulation. BUT it can't confirm ovulation has taken place.
• Basal body temperature can help confirm that ovulation has likely occurred retrospectively.
And sometimes, blood tests or ultrasound are used when more information is needed.
And remember: The fertile window is the days leading up to ovulation were conception is possible.
You don't need to have s*x just ON ovulation day to conceive. S***m can survive for several days in fertile cervical mucus, while the egg has a much shorter lifespan after ovulation.
So if you're TTC, learning your fertile window can be far more useful than simply being told:
“Just have s*x around day 14.”
My tip, look for changes to your cervical mucus and time s*x during this time!
💾 Save this for your next cycle. 📩 Or send it to someone who could benefit from this information.

Most of us leave school knowing more about the water cycle than our own menstrual cycle. 🌧
No one sits us down and explains what's actually happening during ovulation, how short the fertile window really is, or that fertility starts shifting well before 35.
So the first time most people learn any of this is when they're already trying to conceive and it's not going as quickly as they hoped.
That's gap 1.
Gap 2 shows up once you're actually TTC...the space between "see you in 12 months" from your GP and the referral to an IVF clinic, where you're left with a hundred questions and no one whose job it is to answer them.
You deserve support in both of those gaps. Not being told to just Google it, and not being told to just keep waiting.
That's exactly where My Fertility Nurse lives... evidence-based education and personalised support, whenever you need it. Not just once you're deep in the TTC trenches. No one should navigate TTC alone and everyone deserves to learn about their fertility ✨️🩷
Swipe through, and drop a 🙋♀️ if you related to any of this. Or send this to someone who's currently in one of these gaps looking for answers to their questions!
