Master A, has completed his first week of our quit program. He only sucks his thumb . asleep. We individualise programs depending on the type of habit and when it occurs.
Such a significant change in mouth development after only one week of the thumb obstruction out at night.

Congratulations to Master M for completing his telehealth quit program. The first consultation was in person, but since he doesn’t live locally, the rest of the program was via telehealth. One of the keys to his success was identifying and removing a specific trigger. At 10 years of age, his parents had tried many strategies over the years to break the habit without success. The change in his mouth development after removing the obstruction is clear to see. Helping kids like this is the highlight of my day, watching how proud they are to let go of a lifelong habit. Well done, Master M.

It’s been awhile since I last posted…. And YES, I am still treating thumb and finger suckers, along with Orofacial Myofunctional disorders. Life has just been busy !

Good way to spend a Sunday, and use my high school textile class skills, making thumb and finger gloves to post to clients. Lots of patterns to choose from!

I often get told by parents that their GP advised that kids grow into their large tonsils.
They may however, how many nights will they spend snoring, restless and how many days will they be exhausted from poor sleep?
Obstructive breathing disorder or sleep disturbed breathing, can have so many adverse affects on a child’s development including; cognitive, behavioral, and facial/teeth development.

Tired throughout the day

What a way to wrap up 2023, with Beau completing his program and starting 2024 as a non-thumb sucker. Not only has his habit gone, but so many wonderful changes occur when the thumb is out!! So proud of him.
I would also like to thank all the families that I have be involved with this year, you are the reason I love what I do at Thumb Busters.
I will be taking a break for a couple of weeks and look forward to recommencing on the 5th January 2024.

What a great way to spend a Sunday in Melbourne, attending an “ENT for Dentist” lecture by Assoc Prof David McIntosh. His knowledge and experience in so many areas is vast including obstructive airways, adenoids, tonsils, snoring, sleep apnoea, mouth breathing, tongue tie which can all effect the developing child and increase risk in adults health from obstructive sleep apnoea.
These kind of lectures always open up my eyes when it comes assessing patients in a comprehensive way than just seeing teeth.
In my experience Thumb and finger sucking habits often have an underlying airway issue, contributing to the root cause.
David has also published books in these areas that are available on Amazon

What a busy week we have had at Thumb Busters HQ. Also some amazing celebrations over the last couple of weeks. We welcome Miss Indie who has started her quit program. Beau and Isaac are half way through and doing a fabulous job. The big one goes to Laiken who has finished his program and gets to celebrate his amazing achievement.

It’s been a awhile between posts, as we have had a lot happening at Thumb Busters HQ. After a family holiday to sunny Queensland, a special birthday celebration (5️⃣0️⃣ - no, not me), there has been a lot to catch up on.
Especially this last week… To celebrate Dental Health Week, Tania the tooth fairy went to Journey Early Learning Lucas Rise to show the little kids how to look after their teeth. We welcomed Beau and Isaac to the thumb busters family, both starting their quit programs. Deb dress shopping and now watching the Matilda’s play, hoping for a win!!! 💚💛
