When it comes to your hips, more mobility isn’t always the answer...
Mobility gives you access to a range of movement but control determines how well you can actually use that range.
Think about it like this:
🦵 Mobility = the movement available to you
🎯 Control = your ability to actively manage that movement
You might have plenty of hip mobility but struggle to control it under load. Or you might have less mobility but excellent control within your available range.
The goal isn’t necessarily to have the most mobile hips possible.
It’s to have enough mobility for what you need, combined with the strength and control to use it confidently.
So before endlessly stretching your hips, ask yourself:
“Do I actually need more mobility or do I need better control?”
That distinction can make a big difference when it comes to performance, injury management and long-term movement.

A disc bulge on an MRI can sound scary but it doesn’t necessarily explain your pain.
Disc bulges and other age-related changes are common findings, even in people who have no pain at all.
Your symptoms are influenced by the bigger picture — including movement, strength, workload, sleep, stress, recovery and how your nervous system responds to pain.
That’s why we don’t treat the scan alone. We assess the person, not just the picture.
If you’ve been told you have a disc bulge, it doesn’t automatically mean you need to stop moving or avoid activity. With the right approach, movement can often be part of your recovery. 💪

Neck tension creeping in again? 👀
Sometimes it's not about finding one “perfect” stretch or exercise—it’s the small things you do throughout the day that can make a difference.
Try:
🚶 Moving regularly throughout the day
💻 Changing your position and checking your workspace
🧘 Relaxing your jaw and shoulders
😮💨 Taking a few slow breaths
💆 Giving your body enough time to recover
And remember, neck tension isn't always just about your neck. Your upper back, shoulders, jaw, stress levels and daily habits can all play a role.
Save this post for the next time your neck starts feeling tight!
If your neck tension is persistent, keeps coming back, or is affecting your day-to-day life, an assessment may help identify what's contributing to it.

Your upper body doesn't clock off when you leave work.
If you're spending 8+ hours at a desk before heading straight to the gym, your shoulders, neck and upper back are often dealing with continuous load throughout the day.
It's not that desk work or training is "bad", it's the combination... especially when recovery and movement are overlooked.
If you're noticing persistent tightness, headaches, shoulder pain or stiffness, it may be time to look beyond the symptoms and address the underlying load on your body.
At High Performance Osteopathy, we help identify what's contributing to your discomfort and create a plan to keep you moving, training and performing at your best.

Many people don't realise that headaches, neck pain, and jaw discomfort can all be connected.
The jaw, neck, and upper back work together as one system. When one area becomes stiff, overloaded, or tense, the others often compensate. This is why people who clench their teeth, grind at night, or spend long hours at a desk may also experience recurring headaches or persistent neck pain.
Osteopathic care looks at how these regions work together; not just where the pain is felt. By assessing movement, muscle tension, posture, and contributing lifestyle factors, treatment aims to improve overall function and reduce unnecessary strain.
If you've been dealing with recurring headaches, jaw discomfort, or neck stiffness, it may be worth considering whether they're connected.

🤕 Headaches aren't always just a head problem.
Tension through the neck, shoulders, jaw, and upper back can contribute to certain types of headaches. By assessing the body as a whole, osteopaths aim to identify contributing factors and provide a personalised management plan.
Treatment may include hands-on therapy, movement advice, exercises, and education to help improve neck function and reduce headache frequency for appropriate headache types.
If you're experiencing frequent headaches or they're impacting your daily life, book an assessment to find out what may be contributing.
⚠️ If your headache is sudden, severe, different from usual, or accompanied by neurological symptoms, seek urgent medical attention.

💡 Simple Ways to Stay Mobile When Motivation Drops
Let's be honest, motivation isn't always there. Whether it's a busy week, colder weather, or you're simply feeling flat; staying active can sometimes feel like a challenge.
The key? Make movement simple.
✅ Start with just 2 minutes of movement
✅ Build movement into your daily routine
✅ Lower the barrier; something is always better than nothing
✅ Focus on how movement makes you feel, not just what you achieve
✅ Give yourself permission to have off days
Remember, consistency doesn't mean perfection. Small amounts of movement performed regularly can help reduce stiffness, improve mobility, boost energy, and support your long-term health.
Your body is designed to move and every little bit counts.

🚶♂️ MYTH vs FACT 🚶♀️
Many people believe complete rest is the fastest way to recover from pain or injury. In reality, too much rest can delay recovery and make it harder to return to normal activities.
The goal isn't to push through severe pain, but to keep moving in a way that's appropriate for your condition.
If you're unsure how much activity is right for you, an osteopath can help guide you through a safe and effective recovery plan.

Why does pain often seem worse during winter? ❄️
Many people report increased aches and stiffness as the weather cools down. While temperature may play a role, it's often the combination of reduced activity, increased muscle tension, changes in sleep, and lifestyle factors that contributes to worsening symptoms.
The good news? Staying active, maintaining strength, and keeping your body moving can make a significant difference.
If you're finding winter discomfort is affecting your work, exercise, or daily life, seeking assessment and advice early may help prevent symptoms from becoming more persistent.

Fear after injury is completely normal but avoiding movement long term can sometimes slow recovery more than the injury itself.
A big part of rehab is rebuilding confidence in your body through gradual, appropriate movement and loading. Recovery isn’t always about doing less; often it’s about finding the right way to keep moving. 💪
