In this teaching, Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX reflects on the transient nature of experience and what it means to make full use of the present moment in meditation.

Rather than trying to grasp or hold onto the present, Rinpoche describes practice in terms of learning what to remember and what to forget: remembering what enriches our lives, while letting go of what has become an unnecessary burden.

This teaching accompanies our current Weekly Meditation Series, where meditation instruction follows the Buddhist practice of shamatha, or tranquility meditation.

What does tranquility meditation actually do?

In this teaching, Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX describes how the practice of tranquility meditation — shamatha — helps us become settled and focused, remain present, and gradually allow the disturbances of the mind to subside.

As Rinpoche explains, when the mind becomes less disturbed and distracted, it becomes possible for wisdom to arise.

The Essence of Buddhism

Join us for Weekly Meditation —

The Weekly Meditation Series has built a community of practitioners and supported participants in establishing a steady and consistent meditation practice.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced meditator, practising with others can help deepen your meditation and strengthen continuity in your practice.

Meditation instruction follows the Buddhist teachings of shamatha, or tranquility meditation, and is guided by a qualified meditation leader.

Through this practice, we learn to settle and focus the mind, remain attentive and present, and not dwell on thoughts and emotions as they arise.

As the mind becomes less disturbed and distracted, it becomes possible for clearer understanding and wisdom to arise.

Selected sessions also include time for tea and informal discussion after meditation, offering an opportunity to ask questions, share reflections and connect with fellow practitioners.

Join us either in person at E-Vam Institute in Princes Hill or online from the comfort of your home.

Sessions are held on Wednesdays, 6.00–6.45 pm.
Please check the current schedule, as dates may vary.

Today marks the 14th Anniversary of the Parinirvana of the Very Venerable Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX.

This Sunday, E-Vam Institute’s community and sangha warmly welcome all those who have encountered Traleg Rinpoche and Rinpoche’s extraordinary teachings, in whatever way, to join us in remembrance, gratitude and practice.

Together, we will honour the profound benefit and enduring legacy of our remarkable teacher.

In honour of this anniversary, we will share a video teaching by Traleg Rinpoche on Integration, in which Rinpoche explains:

“Integration is the key element in terms of Buddhist practice.”

This will be followed by the practice of Traleg Rinpoche’s Guru Yoga, including a tsog feast offering.

We warmly invite you to join us as we come together as a community, in love and respect, to honour and commemorate Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX.

In this excerpt, Do Tulku Rinpoche speaks about the destructive force of anger, and how it can take hold before we even realise what is happening.

Rather than waiting until anger has already overwhelmed us, Rinpoche points to the importance of recognising what feeds it: the discomfort, frustration and resistance that arise when things do not go the way we want.

To work with anger, we need to recognise its cause, cut off its fuel, and learn to protect a joyful mind —
