Oh and go listen to the latest episode about Sofas 😉
There is something very New York about Marcus Hay’s story.
A childhood souvenir becomes a creative compass, then suddenly that compass is pointing toward Manhattan apartments, magazine years, working with names like Martha Stewart, and living in the orbit of cultural icons like Debbie Harry.
In this episode, Marcus shares what it was really like building a 20 year creative career in the US, from creating visual worlds for major lifestyle brands to navigating the less glamorous bits that come with it.
We talk about taste, place, memory, authentic interiors, and why the best rooms are rarely perfect. They are layered, lived in, full of clues and a little bit odd in the best possible way.
Now back in Sydney, Marcus is entering a new chapter with Annex 3000, more space, more community and a much calmer nervous system.

PS Bree here - apologies for my squealing - Blondie is next level for me 😝
A childhood souvenir from New York became more than a keepsake for Marcus Hay. It became a kind of creative compass.
In this episode, Marcus takes us from his early fascination with Manhattan to a 20 year creative career in the US, working across interiors, magazines, lifestyle brands and visual storytelling.
We talk about how place shapes taste, why interiors gather clues from travel, film and memory, and why the most interesting rooms are rarely the most perfect ones.
Now back in Sydney, Marcus reflects on creative shifts, slowing down, and building a new chapter with more space, more community and a much calmer nervous system.

Milan looks very glamorous online.
In reality, it is also 25,000 steps, queues, overheating, FOMO while physically already being there, and sometimes accidentally arriving at a storage facility instead of a private apartment.
But that’s also the point.
The real magic of Milan is not always in the image everyone shares. It is in the side streets, the conversations, the texture you can’t photograph, the drink in the sun after Salone closes, and the people you experience it with.
In this episode, we’re sharing our Design Anatomy tour highlights and talking about what Milan actually feels like.
Applications are now open for our 2027 Design Anatomy tour.
