The Art House have partnered with NAISDA, Australia’s leading performing arts Registered Training Organisation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, to launch of a new training program, CUA40425 Certificate IV in Live Production and Technical Services.

The partnership reflects a growing industry response to a technical skills shortage as a new pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students seeking careers in lighting, sound, staging, production and live events.

NAISDA is currently calling for applicants for the first intake of CUA40425 Certificate IV in Live Production and Technical Services in February 2027.
Applications close 31 August followed by onsite auditions in late September.

Last week our BlackWrights cohort had a writers retreat at InPlace Artist Residency in Eltham on Wurundjeri country, further developing their original new works as part of the program.

It was a productive time sharing stories and expanding their skills as the next generation of playwrights entering the sector.

We've had some fantastic inroads with our artist development programs this week!

Blackstage participants have been working on becoming deadly lighting, set, and costume designers, using the facilities at The University of Melbourne VCA.

While ILBIJERRI Ensemble participants showcased their acting abilities with monologues from a collection of First Peoples plays Black Medea, Sunshine Super Girl, The Visitors, Yanagai Yanagai, Blaque Showgirls, and Tracker.

We cannot wait to see their skills progress, keep up the great work!

Gunawarra Re-creation opens tomorrow at Cremone Theatre, QPAC!

Experience this story of Blak women healing through Gunawarra’s creation story in its last season for 2026 from ILBIJERRI Theatre Company.

This remounted production brings 'more depth through new movement work' by (Th)Dunghutti and Gomeroi choreographer Zoë Brown-Holten.
