An exciting collaboration between Naracoorte High School & Narracoorte Homestead led by charismatic drama teacher, Miss Lizzy Stewart.

Students will research historical figures, & artifacts related to the near-180 year history of the property, & have been given artistic license to create their own Narracoorte-history stories to be performed on the grounds of the Homestead 🎭

So much enthusiasm for some potential new historic discoveries made right in the classroom this morning 👏

I love that no 2 days are ever the same as owner of this gorgeous & historic property.

Thanks Lizzy!! What a great teacher, the kids are very lucky to have you as their teacher 👍👍👍

Caring for precious slabs of Willunga Slate in the old Cottage. How incredible that the business is still operational 180 years later..!

Does anyone have any slate at their place.? Do you know its origin?

Are these two pictures of the same hayshed at the old Narracoorte station / Dartmoor Homestead, circa 1918.?

*the B&W image has recently been given to me by Una Percival (nee Pluckhahn) whose father Heinrich Pluckhahn leased/owned the property circa 1916-1924

*the painting on the right was gifted to me by siblings John & Helen Humphrys, whose family lived at the property circa 1974-1978 (artist Neil Vivian)

This is the face of a happy Heritage-listed building owner.!

The upkeep on these beautiful old babies here is sometimes a little overwhelming, hence the SA Heritage Conservation Fund provides 50% of total works cost towards successful grant applications each year.

This small roof section which is the original breakfast servery & kitchen area, will get a new tin roof & guttering (& structural beams checked/replaced, chimney flashing repaired) once the weather becomes roof-climbing friendly again this year.!

Not a moment too late as there was a small tree sprouting from inside the room as I wrote the grant application in March this year 😆 (…maybe that helped the application.?)

Lots of lovely visitors coming through in August - it’s the first August I’ve been open so it’s been nice to see people enjoying the tranquility of the property & the open fireplace of the gorgeous Ormerod Cottage🔥
