It may feel hard to have a good posture, but it actually is not. Some tiny changes in our everyday life can have a tremendous effect on our posture. Let’s have a look at few of these:
• Sitting evenly on both glutes: People spend lots of time sitting. So the way we sit has a great impact on our spine and posture. Sitting on both sit-bones equally can be great help. Crossing your leg above the knee will rotate the same side of the hip, that will reduce the pressure on that side and increase loads on the other side of the body.
• Sit straight: It feels comfortable to slouch since gravity acts, but sitting tall won’t do any harm.
• Neck back to shoulder: It is a digital world and most of the work is on computer. While giving attention to work whether on computer or any other, a little focus to make sure your head is aligned with your shoulder adds an extra benefit.
• Looking up or straight: A common trend nowadays we see is what we call ‘Text Neck’. Everybody is looking down. It is found that people spend almost 80% of their day in this posture. So just focusing on looking straight or admiring how beautiful the sky is can have a greater effect on your health
• Standing with equal weight on both legs: Next state where we spend lots of time is standing. Again, leaning on one side will unevenly distribute the weight of our body in between our hips and pelvic joints. This results in tilting of the pelvic, as a compensation our spine moves in a dysfunctional pattern resulting in poor posture.
• Walking: Our spine loves movement. Just a simple walk of 30-45 minutes every day promotes good movement of our vertebrae.
• Stretches: 10-15 minutes of stretching can prepare you for a good day and for good night.
These simple habits can make the world of difference. Give us a call today to arrange an Posture assessment.

Good posture reflects a healthy body. That’s why looking after your posture is important. Poor posture not only is the cause of pain in several region of the body like
• Neck pain
• Headache
• Upper back pain
• Shoulder problems
• Low back pain
But also, is the cause of abnormal physiological and psychological conditions.
Chiropractors are well educated and trained to find and correct the area of misalignment or dysfunctional movement in the spine - which we called ‘Subluxation’. There are many different types of adjustments, ranging from an activator adjustment, to blocks or wedges under your pelvis, to manual which is done by hand.
Chiropractic adjustments aim to correct these misalignments, restoring proper spinal alignment and assisting joints to move in the way they are designed. This also helps to reduce stiffness and tension in surrounding muscles.
Beside these effects, adjustment has been proven to improve brain and body connection, what this means is - it helps the brain to be more aware about the changes within the body and surrounding. Our brain receives a constant supply of messages about our body and the external environment from our sensory organ and it maintains a 3D map of our body to regulate it constantly. Adjustments help to clear any interference in this route, so that you are more aware of your own body and can self-regulate the postural correction.

Age Detection for Scoliosis/Curvature of the Spine...
When should I bring my child in to be checked for Scoliosis?
Research says that it is best to check for scoliosis before the growth spurt, which is the greatest potential for progression.
GIRLS- Between ages of 10-11 should be checked three times (every 6 months)
BOYS- Once between the age of 12-13
It is important to note, that post menopausal women should also be checked, because it is related to bone strength and chances of progression increase at this age.

What is Scoliosis?
Scoliosis is an abnormal side-to-side curvature of the spine. Normally, our spine is straight when viewed from front to back, with three equal and opposite C-shaped curves when viewing from the side. Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral (side to side) S-shaped or C-shaped curvature of the spine. It can occur at any age but is most commonly diagnosed in childhood and adolescence.
Scoliosis can be either structural (structural deformation in the spine) or functional (a problem in a different region of the body rather than in the spine). Around 2/3 cases of scoliosis are idiopathic (due to an unknown cause). It is however, believed that it is caused by a combination of both genetic and epigenetic factors, with the remaining cases caused by congenital and neuromuscular conditions.
Scoliosis can be a highly progressive condition which is highly dependent on the age of the person, skeletal maturity, degree of curve and pattern of curve. The younger the person who has not yet reached skeletal maturity, the higher chance of progression compared to those individuals of an older age who have already completed their spinal growth. Similarly, the chance of progression is higher with a greater degree of the curve.
An individual can be screened for scoliosis by physical examination by the chiropractor, and if warranted a spinal X-ray is recommended to assess the curves of scoliosis. Depending on age, cause, type, and degree of the curve, the management plan for scoliosis varies and your care can tailored accordingly.
