The moment you finally reach down and lift your baby up, heaven on earth!
There is something so special about a baby being gathered up by their parents, while the midwives observe & ensure that all is well right beside them.
Did you catch your own baby? We'd love to hear about your birth (we clearly can't get enough, how could you when it's like this?!)

Meetings as midwives.. always interesting and always full of learning!
Recently our midwives caught up to case conference, but took the opportunity to also get some suturing practice in. Many of our midwives have trained with , who we host every year to upskill practitioners locally, but we keep the practice going any chance we get.
The midwives used some cow tongue (we know lots of farmers!), which is often a better choice than chicken breast as it's more similar in layers and consistency - fun fact!
Keeping your skills up doesn't always look like hitting the books as midwives!
Have you given birth in our 'Sue' pool? This is the face of the wonderful midwife who the pool is named after!
At MAMA, every pool we give to a client for their birth is named after a midwife who has guided us, mentored us, taught us and simply improved care for families in many different ways. Sue is one of those brilliant midwives and midwife Veronica nabbed her for a video recently.
Shout out to Sue & all of the brilliant midwives we respect and adore!
If you've birthed with us.. whose pool did you get?

It can often surprise parents that babies can be alert & quiet when they're born. We've come to think of crying as the only indicator of wellbeing sometimes when you watch birth in the general media. However, often at a gentle birth (particularly in water when the transition to one warm environment to the next occurs), it can look more like this.
Quiet moments where your baby is calm, alert, looking at you and the world & finding familiarity in your smell, heartbeat, voice (all those things they've known as home for the last 10months).
It still amazes us midwives too, to really stand and watch a baby soak up their first experience of the world and to just 'be' so in their bodies immediately. It's really hard to even put into words how much of an honour it is to witness.

Sometimes the pace of a short appointment doesn't always leave room for what something actually means for you, your body, your baby, your labour or your postpartum.
That's why continuity of care is so important to families and midwives alike. When you're seeing the same midwife throughout your pregnancy, those follow-up questions aren't just a delay... they're the whole point of the appointment. You get to ask the same thing multiple different ways until it actually makes sense to you, often way before you even need to make a choice for many topics!
If you would like to explore what continuity of care can look like for you and your family, we have discovery appointments that are book billed every day of the week with a midwife.

A beautiful affirmation on the fridge of a gorgeous client.
The reminder serves so well in the waiting room phase of pregnancy, often that 40-42 week window, when even though you know you're not post-term, you've seen your 'due date' pass by & the mental game can change.
The reminder also serves in labour, when as long as mother & baby are well, we really see no set timeline and know that babies will come when they are ready.
Spoiler alert; Jack did indeed come when he was ready!
