🌟 Where do paralysis ticks prefer to hide? 🌟

An Australian study has revealed where paralysis ticks are most likely to attach on dogs and cats. Over 10,000 tick paralysis cases were analysed, providing valuable information on where to focus first when searching for ticks. 🕷️

As well as using an effective tick control product, daily searching and removal of ticks is recommended. Importantly, for pets suffering from tick paralysis, finding and removing the tick as quickly as possible can be life-saving.

The study also found some unusual attachment sites:
🔹Ear canal
🔹Inside the mouth
🔹Nostrils
🔹Under tail or ge***al areas

🌟 Professional Pet Dental Cleaning: What to Expect 🌟

Did you know that dental disease is one of the most common health problems in dogs and cats? And it can be hiding beneath the gumline even when your pet's teeth don't look too bad. 🦷

So, what happens during a professional dental clean❓

🩺 Before the procedure
Our vets will examine your pet and may recommend blood tests to check their overall health and make sure anaesthesia is appropriate.

😴 Anaesthesia
A proper dental clean requires a general anaesthetic. This allows our veterinary team to safely examine every tooth, clean below the gumline and identify painful or diseased teeth without causing your pet stress or discomfort.

🔍 A thorough examination
Every tooth and the surrounding gums are carefully assessed. Dental X-rays may be recommended to detect problems hidden below the gumline, such as damaged roots or bone loss.

✨ Scaling & polishing
Specialised equipment removes plaque and tartar from the teeth, including beneath the gumline. The teeth are then polished to create a smoother surface that makes it harder for plaque to stick.

🦷 Extractions if needed
Sometimes diseased, damaged or painful teeth need to be removed. Our vets will discuss any significant findings and the recommended treatment with you.

💤 Recovery
Your pet will be closely monitored as they wake from anaesthesia. They may be sleepy for the rest of the day and, if extractions were performed, you'll receive specific aftercare instructions.

🏠 Dental care doesn't stop at the clinic!
Plaque starts building up again after a professional clean, so ongoing home care is important. Regular tooth brushing, dental diets and other dental products can all play a role.

And remember, bad breath isn't just "normal pet breath". It can be a sign of dental disease.

🌟 Oh my Dawg it's Dental Month! 🦷🌟

🌟 NEWS: New Zealand has officially ended commercial greyhound racing 🌟

As of 1 August 2026, commercial greyhound racing is no longer permitted anywhere in New Zealand, bringing an end to an industry that had operated for decades.

So, why did New Zealand make this decision❓
The Government announced the ban following years of scrutiny and growing concerns about greyhound welfare, including injuries and deaths associated with racing and concerns about what happens to dogs once they are no longer suitable for the industry.
A transition period was put in place to wind down racing and support the rehoming of thousands of greyhounds, as well as people whose livelihoods were connected to the industry.

Now the conversation turns to Australia...

Greyhound racing remains legal across most of Australia, although the ACT has banned it and Tasmania is moving towards a phase-out.
Animal welfare organisations continue to raise concerns about injuries, deaths, breeding practices and the fate of greyhounds leaving the industry.
