This photo of the Beazleys Bridge Memorial Gates features in my 2027 calendar.
The gates stand to remember the district’s residents who fought in the First and Second World Wars 🙏
There used to be a hall behind these gates not so long ago.
I remember the hall, but I don’t know a lot about it. I was in a band called Pumpin’ Overtime and we practiced there. I reckon it was in the early 2000s.
Darling It Hurts by Paul Kelly was a fave because I played the keyboard and that song has a fair bit of keyboard in it 😂🎹 I definitely didn’t play it as well as the original!
The hall is gone now, but the memories remain. And so do the names on these gates ❤️

This is Lake Batyo Catyo at the moment. A usually dry lake, about 30km from St Arnaud, almost full after good rain this year.
Like many other people, I have some wonderful memories here.
We had an old Skicraft called Kumagutza with a 308 in it (we still do). Dad wanted to call it Far Canal. Mum wouldn’t let him for some reason 😂
We spent so much time at this lake. We would usually be one of the last ones there because the best water for skiing was just before dark. We’d drive home to Logan through St Arnaud and get fish and chips, sit on the boat and eat them in the main street while people ‘cut laps’.
The joy of the school bell ringing and seeing our VN Commodore with Kumagutza behind it was always a welcome sight on a midweek Summer’s afternoon. No phone calls or text messages those days, just show up and know we’d see the car waiting to pick us up instead of getting on the bus.
I remember getting out to Batyo and discovering the fuel tank was leaking in the boat. No packing up and going home. Dad somehow fixed the tank with a bit of help from the lake caretaker or a farmer? I’m not sure. But no leaking fuel tank got in the way of a calm day and skiing. Dad loved a calm day. His most used sentence over Summer “It’d be good if the wind’d drop”.
A day in the boat would leave you with wild, windswept hair, coined the ‘Batyo Perm’. A term still used when someone is sporting a wild do 😂
Batyo’s recent history is filled with controversy. It lost its water allocation many years ago and locals have campaigned on and off over the years to have it restored.
At one point, the lake had been dry for such a long time, a group of us had organised to run a motorbike race on it. We had all approvals ready and then the heavens opened. It rained so much, it almost filled. The race never went ahead.
Ahh Batyo. You’re trying your best to come back ❤️

Loving the wildflowers around St Arnaud at the moment! 🌸🌿
We are very lucky to live here. You can walk 5 minutes from the middle of town and be in beautiful bushland like this 😍

St Arnaud Railway Station. What a beauty 😍 I can just picture an old steam train rolling into town in the evening.
This grand building has been turned into a beautiful art gallery by the community. Worth a look!

A lot of people tell me they don’t have time to create content or that they’re so busy they forget to capture anything.
I completely understand! Because over the last few weeks, I’ve been doing lots of work and was so busy, I forgot to create any content for myself 😂
Anyway, here are a few shots I’ve managed to capture with my phone, camera or drone, from the country to the city, in amongst running several social media accounts, creating content for others, delivering a social media workshop in Natimuk, covering an event in Melbourne, scraping old paint off our house and everything else in between.
There’s not much of my actual work in here. Apparently I need to take my own advice 😂
Hope you have a great week ☺️
I’m not sure social media algorithms should be a priority at the moment, mainly because I think our resources could be better spent elsewhere.
I work with social media every day and I think we already have a fair amount of control over our feeds. The algorithm learns from what we watch, engage with and ignore. We can also mute, unfollow, block or just scroll past things we don’t want to see.
Algorithms aren’t perfect, but they can also help people discover things they’re interested in and they’re a pretty important way for small and local businesses to get found.
What do you think? Is this something you see as a priority right now?
