Since Woronora Bush Fire Brigade is a specialized, primarily water-based brigade focusing on fire boats, having the Grays Point bring down the trucks provides the perfect, well-rounded display for the community at their Get Ready event.
This is also an invaluable environment for our latest recruits to build cross-brigade teamwork right from the start of their training.

The 1st October marks the official start of the bush fire season, with the Bush Fire Danger Period beginning in most NSW Local Government Areas.
If you’re planning on conducting a burn, you’ll require a fire permit from your local Fire Control Centre or brigade. Fire permits help ensure fire is used safely and reduces the danger to you, your property and the community.
Residents and land holders must know the rules when it comes to the use of fire. Along with having the required fire permits, you need to notify your local fire authority and neighbours of your intent to burn at least 24 hours in advance.
For more information on the Bush Fire Danger Period and requirements around safe burning, visit our website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP

Preparation starts with you.
When a bush fire threatens, the decisions you make can save your life. Firefighters will do everything they can to protect communities, but they can’t be everywhere at once. There is no guarantee a fire truck will be there when you need it. That’s why it’s important to have a Bush Fire Survival Plan and know what you’ll do before a fire starts.
Before the bush fire season:
• Discuss your Bush Fire Survival Plan with everyone in your household.
• Prepare your home.
• Know the Bush Fire Alert Levels and when you need to leave.
• Keep key information and important documents on hand.
The more prepared you are, the more options you’ll have when conditions change.

Bush fires can occur quickly and without warning. Before you travel, make sure you have checked the conditions and have a plan in place if things change. Let people know your movements and if it’s not safe, avoid traveling altogether. Always keep an eye out for emergency vehicles and if you see a fire call triple Zero (000).
