Meet Dr Tully Loomes ๐Ÿ‘‹

If youโ€™re new around here, you may not have met Tully yet! Heโ€™s our newest osteopath, and weโ€™re excited to introduce him to the Living Health Group community.

Tully chose osteopathy after seeing the impact pain and injuries can have on peopleโ€™s everyday lives. What he enjoys most is helping people understand and manage their injuries while working towards their individual goals, whether thatโ€™s getting back to sport, work or the activities they enjoy.

He has a particular interest in sporting injuries, low back pain, neck pain and headaches, as well as hip and knee conditions. With a strong sporting background, he also enjoys exercise rehabilitation and helping people return to activity.

A few things to know about Tully outside the clinic:
๐Ÿ‰ He plays football
๐Ÿ‹๏ธ He enjoys going to the gym
๐Ÿ„ He loves surfing when the weather is decent
๐Ÿถ He enjoys walking his dog
โ˜• His go-to coffee is a large latte, occasionally with an extra shot

Fun fact: Tully grew up in Gippsland, near Warragul, and moved closer to the city a few years ago for a busier lifestyle and more opportunities.

You can find Tully at Living Health Group Tuesdays & Wednesdays, 2 -7pm.

Welcome to the team, Tully! ๐Ÿ’œ

3 conditions Mitch has been seeing in clinic lately ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿ‰

As the seasons change and training loads increase, certain injuries tend to become more common. Here are three presentations Mitch has been seeing more frequently:

๐Ÿƒ 1. Knee pain related to running
Changes in training volume, intensity, or recovery can sometimes contribute to pain around the knee in runners.

๐Ÿ‰ 2. Ankle sprains
With football and basketball in full swing, ankle sprains are a common reason people seek assessment after a twist, awkward landing, or change of direction.

๐Ÿ’ช 3. Hamstring muscle strains
As the footy season progresses, fatigue, increased game demands, and accumulated training load may contribute to hamstring muscle strains.

Every personโ€™s situation is different, so an assessment is important to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and to discuss management options that are appropriate for you.

Have you experienced any of these this season? โฌ‡๏ธ

PAIN BEHIND YOUR SHOULDER BLADE? ๐Ÿ’ป

If you spend a lot of your day at a desk, you might be familiar with that ache, tightness or discomfort around the shoulder blade.

But itโ€™s not always about having โ€œbad postureโ€.

Long periods of sitting and staying in one position can mean your body isnโ€™t getting much movement throughout the day.

A few things that may help:
โ€ข Take regular movement breaks
โ€ข Change positions throughout the day
โ€ข Move your shoulders and upper back regularly
โ€ข Avoid staying in one position for hours at a time
โ€ข If the pain is persistent, worsening or affecting your day-to-day activities, consider getting it assessed

Your desk setup matters โ€” but how often you move matters too.

If you're experiencing ongoing shoulder blade pain, an osteopath can assess your symptoms and help you understand what may be contributing to them.

Our menstrual health is worth paying attention to ๐Ÿ’›

Menstrual cycles can vary from person to person, and what is usual for one person may be different for another.

However, changes from your usual pattern can be worth noticing. This might include changes to your cycle, heavier bleeding, period pain that impacts your day-to-day life, or symptoms that affect your sleep, work, exercise or overall wellbeing.

There is no โ€œone size fits allโ€ when it comes to menstrual health. Understanding what is normal for you can help you recognise when something has changed and know when it may be worth starting a conversation with a qualified healthcare professional.

Life gets busy, but your health is still worth making time for. ๐Ÿ’™

Between work, family, commitments and everything else that fills our days, it can be easy to put your own wellbeing at the bottom of the list.

Supporting your body doesnโ€™t always require big changes. Often, itโ€™s the small, consistent habits that help you stay connected with your health.

Here are 5 simple ways to support your body when life gets busy:

โœ… Move regularly
โœ… Prioritise sleep
โœ… Stay active
โœ… Fuel and hydrate your body
โœ… Listen to your body

Remember, looking after yourself is not about finding more time, itโ€™s about making small choices that support your wellbeing each day.

At Living Health Group, our qualified health professionals are here to support you in understanding your individual concerns and discussing options that may be appropriate for you.

Your menstrual health is worth paying attention to ๐Ÿ’›

Many people experience changes throughout their menstrual cycle, but sometimes it can be difficult to know what is part of your usual experience and what may be worth discussing.

Things like changes to your cycle, heavier bleeding, period pain that impacts your day-to-day life, or symptoms that affect your sleep, work, exercise or wellbeing are all experiences that may be worth starting a conversation about.

If you're a tradie and you've noticed pain around the outside of your elbow, you're not alone.

Repetitive gripping and using vibration tools like drills, reciprocating saws, impact drivers and screwdrivers can place repeated stress through the muscles and tendons around the elbow. Over time, this can become painful and make everyday tasks more difficult.

Here are two strategies that may help:

โœ”๏ธ 1. Adjust your workload, then build back up gradually.
If symptoms have flared up, reducing the activities that aggravate your elbow and gradually increasing your workload may help. Everyone's situation is different, so it's worth booking in for an assessment to discuss the most appropriate plan for you.

โœ”๏ธ 2. Consider an elbow brace.
A tennis elbow brace may help reduce strain on the affected area during certain activities. In this video, we'll show you where to position it for the best fit.

If elbow pain is stopping you from getting through your workday comfortably, an assessment can help identify what's contributing to your symptoms and discuss management options suited to your needs.

๐Ÿ“ž Book online or give our team a call if you'd like to chat.
