A 2023 ASUS ROG Ally Z1 Extreme (RC71L) came in with its battery connector torn off the board after a DIY battery swap.

The Ally's battery connector is small, and the pads beneath it are fragile. Under the microscope, five pads (the copper landing points the connector pins solder to) had been ripped away, leaving bare board substrate. Three more had minor substrate damage around them.

We removed the damaged connector and the factory solder, then rebuilt the five broken traces (the copper paths that carry power and signals) with fine jumper wire run to the nearest vias, and reinforced each one. With the board damage repaired, we fitted a new connector using high-temperature alloy solder and reinforced its anchor points.

Before closing up, we measured diode-mode readings on all ten pins, a quick check for shorts or open circuits, and refreshed the thermal paste with MX-4. On the bench it charged at 19.64 V / 2.49 A, a healthy 48.9 W.

We also found the right joystick's connector and ribbon in an abnormal state, and restored that connection with jumpers. The owner knows about both repairs in case it needs service down the track.

Torn pads don't have to mean a new board. Battery swap gone wrong? Book your repair today.

Your iPhone's iCloud backup only runs automatically on Wi-Fi, locked and charging, so it can quietly fall behind without you noticing. 💡 Quick check: Settings, your name, iCloud, iCloud Backup, then look at the "last successful backup" date. Android users, the same habit applies under Google Backup. We hear this from customers across Crace, Bonner and near ANU: these device backup tips matter most for the photos you'd hate to lose. If the worst ever does happen, we're here for phone repair in Crace and across Canberra.
