A rewarding day at the International Medical Robotics Academy (IMRA) facilitating a robotic surgery workshop today.

It was a pleasure connecting with fellow robotic gynaecologists from across Australia and showcasing robotic surgery to trainees and colleagues motivated to learn and introduce this technology into their own practice.

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit MicroPort MedBot’s robotic surgery headquarters and training centre in Shanghai to experience the Toumai robotic platform firsthand. While the da Vinci system has dominated robotic surgery for more than two decades, the arrival of a credible new competitor is an encouraging development. Greater competition has the potential to reduce costs, expand access to robotic surgery, and accelerate innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence and telesurgery. Ultimately, these advances matter most when they improve patient care and make minimally invasive surgery available to more women who can benefit from it.

Attended quarterly Gynaecology Surgical Audit last night ✔️

Regularly attending the Gynaecology Surgical Audit is an important part of maintaining high standards in patient care.
These meetings give us the opportunity to review our outcomes, reflect on challenging cases, learn from one another, and continually refine our surgical practice. Open discussion and shared learning among colleagues help ensure that we are always improving what we do, and continually work towards better and safer outcomes for our patients. Continuous learning and accountability are essential in medicine.

Honoured to be invited as the first robotic proctor to autograph the brand new console at a hospital that has recently launched its multidisciplinary program with the da Vinci Surgical System — though I did feel slightly guilty being the first to “vandalise” their otherwise immaculate new machine.

Looking forward to seeing many more expert proctors add their signatures in the months and years ahead.

✨ Back in beautiful Tasmania — six years after proctoring the first robotic hysterectomy in Tasmania at a private hospital in Hobart, I had the privilege today to proctor a local gynaecologist in performing a robotic hysterectomy in Launceston — the first in a public hospital.

Launceston General Hospital is now the first public hospital in Tasmania to acquire this state-of-the-art robotic technology for women’s health — a significant milestone in closing the gap in access to robotic surgery in gynaecology.

So proud to be part of this milestone and to continue my mission of helping women everywhere access the best, most minimally invasive surgical options available.✨
