SEMI FINALS - NETBALL WRAP!

Another big weekend with all netball sides in action during the second week of the finals.

A grade, E grade and the U19's have all secured their place in the Grand Finals in two weeks.

A grade put on a dominant display against Inverleigh to move into the decider with a final score of 36-18. E grade played out a heart stopper, requiring extra time to overcome Inverleigh. The U19 girls controlled the game after quarter time, setting up the 33-22 win over Werribee with an 11-6 second quarter after a slow start.

B, C and D grade and the U17's fought hard, but were overcome in their 2nd semis, but fight on and earned the double chance to atone in the Preliminary Finals on this weekend.

The U15's and U13's both lost in close games which sees their season come to an end.

So we have 3 sides with Grand Finals booked and another 4 with a chance this weekend in Preliminary Finals.

Go Eagles!!

FOOTY WRAP - SEMI FINALS!

On Saturday, the seniors won their first 2nd Semi Final since the Club’s last senior premiership year in 2009, in the process advancing to the GDF&L Grand Final for a second season in a row.

After quickly kicking the first of the goal of the game, we immediately lost one of our spiritual leaders Sam Lowe to a horrific hip/pelvis injury and this seemed to have an negative effect on the players as they just couldn’t get their game flowing and Winchelsea were well on top of us. As a result, we only kicked one more goal for the first half and went into the main break 28 points down.

The second half was a different story though, with some great long distance goal kicking and strong contested play around stoppages resulting in a nine goal to two stanza and a 15 point win over the Blues. Austin Mulvahil was superb all day as were Ben Crombie, Matt Kasparian, Ben Mulvahil and Bailey Payne. Up forward Wil Hough chimed in for a goal and a brilliant last quarter, while Caleb Ezard and Andrew Steele kicked three goals each and Zac Smith kicked two goals.

Like the seniors, the reserves made a flying start kicking a goal in the first 20 seconds and from that point forward they were never headed. But for inaccurate kicking the margin could have been a lot greater than the final margin of 45 points, with the strong backline also contributing well to the result, keeping Winchelsea to just one goal for the afternoon. Noah Charman was best on ground kicking 5 goals with Jake Nolan, Ross Symonds, Ethan McDonald and Jay Skate amongst the better players on the ground as we now head into a Preliminary Final against Bell Post Hill.

JUNIOR FOOTY FINALS!

On the weekend we had both of our U14 boys sides playing off in finals action, along with some of our U17 girls.

The Division 1 Whitley side found Torquay Grossman too strong, eventually going down by 33 points in the Elimination Final which sees their season come to an end. Congratulations to all the boys and the coaching staff on a fantastic year and we look forward to what is to come for this group.

The Division 7 Thomson/East Geelong combined side kept their winning form going with a 15 point win over Drysdale Hargreaves in the Qualifying Final and advance to the Grand Final in two weeks. Well done to all the players and coaches and we will have more details when they are available of day, time and venue.

The U17 girls combined side with Inverleigh and Bannockburn went down by 4 points in a very close game to St. Mary's in the Preliminary Final. Big thanks to and for the work in bringing this team together this season.

WEEK 1 FINALS NETBALL WRAP!

What a weekend our netballers had on the courts at St. Albans.

The U19's also won thier qualifying final and move on to the 2nd semi next Saturday, joining the U17's who had a week off this week after finishing on top.

The U15's went down to Bannockburn in their game after holding a half time lead. They now head into the 1st semi next Sunday needing to win to stay in contention.

The U13's won their elimination final this morning and now also move on to a 1st semi next Sunday.

So, heading into the second week of finals, all teams are still alive, with 7 teams still holding the double chance and the U15's and U13's in knockout finals on Sunday.

FOOTY WRAP - QUALIFYING FINALS!

The seniors continued their good form today, beating Werribee for the second time in two weeks by 42 points in the GDF&NL Qualifying Final. After an even first quarter, the boys ran away with the game, extending their lead at every change to set up a crack at Winchelsea in next week's Second Semi Final. In a good old 'team effort’, Andrew Steele kicked 4 goals, while Sam Purdy, Caleb Ezard, Jack Doyle, Zac Smith and Ben Mulvahil kicked 2 goals each. Young Darcy Martin was best on ground in his first ever senior final and he was well supported by Paddy Visentin, Galen Munari and Ben Crombie.

The reserves played a disappointing Qualifying Final against Bell Post Hill losing by 16 points. A lack of pressure and an inability to win around the stoppages led to the disappointing result. Young Jed Davis played a great game down back, as did Jake Nolan and Lachie Williams. Chris Warwick kicked 3 goals and Noah Charman kicked 2 goals up forward.
