EXPOSING THE "SNAKE CHARMERS"
Learning how to handle unfamiliar snakes in different ways takes a lot more than just using a snake hook or "tongs".
PINYO The Snake Wrangler is an Asiatic snake expert who was teaching me the intricacies of the monocled cobra. They're highly intelligent snakes that are NOT aggressive.
Snake charmers with their flutes would want you to believe their music lures cobras but in reality, its the movement and eye contact. Pinyo was teaching me how cobras interact, when, where, how they bite.
My handling of the snake with Pinyo was under total supervision. Do NOT copy the actions herein. It is part of my learning process around snakes around the world as soon I'm going to need to know how to handle these snakes.
GOOD SHEPHERD SISTERS IN BANGKOK
In Thailand, was privileged to be able to visit the Good Shepherd Sisters Home in Bangkok and meet 92y.o Sister Louise who dedicated 66 years of her life to helping women in Thailand.
Sister Louise is an inspiration who helps women and children in:
- Preventing Human Trafficking
- Educating and empowering disadvantaged women
- Providing services for refugees.
- Childcare for disadvantaged children
- selling toys and products made from the women to fund more projects.
If you're in Thailand, please bring food, cleaning products and sanitary items to:
Good Shepherd Sisters Din Dang
4128 /1 Soi Bot Mae Phra Fatima, Din Daeng, Bangkok 10400, Thailand
Or stop past their shop to buy some toys for family back home.
CATCHING SNAKES IN BANGKOK WITH THAILAND'S FIRE AND RESCUE DEPT
A big thank you to PINYO The Snake Wrangler for bringing us along to catch snakes with the THAILAND'S Fire and rescue department. In Thailand, dedicated firefighters catch snakes that go into people's homes - what we should do here, I could see myself as a snake catching firefighter.
Anyway, they get 100 - 200 snakes a day in Bangkok. Enjoy
THE MONOCLED COBRA (Naja kaouthia)
Come join me Siam Serpentarium as I got up close and personal with the Monocled cobra. These very misunderstood snakes, display hooded behaviour and hiss loudly when threatened. Monocled cobras grow up to 2.3m (but rarely this big) and are essential for protectingagriculture by eating vermin.
A big thank you to Beem@Siam Serpentarium🐍 and the team for this incredible opportunity.
PIT VIPERS OF THAILAND
Striking at 3.5m/s we went behind the scenes Siam Serpentarium laboratory to up close with some of the venomous pit vipers of Thailand.
1. Kanchanaburi pit viper
2. Beautiful pit viper (Trimeresurus venustus)
3. The waglers pit viper
4. white lipped Pit Viper(Trimeresurus albolabris)
5. Large eyed pit viper (Trimeresurus macrops)
6. Mangrove pit viper (Trimeresurus purpureomaculatus)
7. Hagens pit viper (Trimeresurus hageni)
8. malayan pit viper. A very dangerous snake in the top 3 of thailand.
This list is not exclusive, but a great demonstration of some of the pit vipers of Thailand.
SIAM SERPENTARIUM - THAILAND (PART 1)
A big thank you to:
- Saranon Charoensuk (beem), curator
- Kotchanun Bunjerdluk (Best), scientist
- Achita Limpanavas (Au), tour guide
For our amazing tour of the Siam Serpentarium by Beem@Siam Serpentarium🐍 and the team.
I got a personalised tour of the museum, and learned about snakes of Thailand. Many Australians visit Thailand, and are likely to come across snakes. I strongly recommend to visit this museum to learn about snakes!
SHOPPING WITH MRS SNAKE HUNTER
Most of the time in our 4 day trip to Thailand was about snakes, charity, snakes, giving speeches and more snakes but we spent 1 day shopping genuine name brands that were 100% real and exclusively found in every single shop in Thailand.
For some reason they were about 1/1000th of the real price but maybe I cant calculate the currency conversion right. Anyway, if you want to go shopping - go to Thailand :)
EDUCATING THAILAND'S VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS ABOUT SNAKES
Educating people about snakes is my passion and I was honoured to be invited by PINYO The Snake Wrangler to teach the next group of volunteer fire fighters about snakes.
I got to catch reticulated pythons, bottle a cobra, demonstrate different snakes in a whole new place.
The Thai people are super nice and polite, respectful and so lovely. I have loved every minute of Thailand. Thank you to PINYO The Snake Wrangler and the people of Thailand for being such wonderful hosts.
LEARNING ABOUT THAILAND'S SNAKES
PINYO The Snake Wrangler is Thailand's most prominent snake catcher and educator. I had the honour of meeting and learning from him.
Learn about what to do/not do if bitten by a snake. No matter where I go in the world, every snake expert says snakes don't want to hurt or bite you.
