π FIV Prevention Starts with Awareness π
FIV is a lifelong viral infection that affects a cat's immune system. Although many FIV-positive cats can enjoy a good quality of life, preventing infection remains the best approach.
Because FIV is most often spread through cat bites, simple preventative measures can make a big difference:
πΎ Keep cats safely contained
πΎ Ensure your cats' vaccinations are up-to-date
πΎ Desex cats to reduce fighting and roaming
πΎ Test cats before introducing them to multi-cat households
πΎ Seek veterinary attention for bite wounds and routine health checks
By taking steps to reduce the spread of FIV, we can help keep more cats healthy and protected.

This , the team at Dandenong Veterinary Hospital wants to pause and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land we live, work, and care for animals on, the lands of the Bunurong and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been the traditional custodians and healers of this Country and its incredible wildlife for tens of thousands of years. As veterinary professionals, we walk in deep respect of that enduring connection to land, sea, and community.
Today, and every day, we pay our respects to Elders past and present. πΎπ±

π± Understanding FIV in Cats π±
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is a virus that affects a cat's immune system. While many FIV-positive cats can live happy lives for years with appropriate care, the virus is lifelong, and there is currently no cure. That's why prevention is so important. If you'd like to discuss FIV testing, vaccination, or your cat's risk factors, our team is happy to help.

π¦· Pet Dental Awareness πΎ
Did you know that dental disease is one of the most common health problems in dogs and cats? By the age of 3, many pets show signs of dental issues that can affect not only their teeth and gums but also their overall health.
Signs your pet may need a dental check-up:
βοΈ Bad breath
βοΈ Yellow or brown tartar buildup
βοΈ Red or bleeding gums
βοΈ Difficulty eating or chewing
βοΈ Excessive drooling
βοΈ Pawing at the mouth
Regular dental care helps prevent pain, infection, and more serious health complications. Brushing your pet's teeth, providing dental-friendly treats, and scheduling routine dental examinations are all important steps toward maintaining a healthy smile.
Book a dental health check with our team today and help keep your furry friend's teeth clean and healthy for years to come! πΆπ±
