‼️With the rising rates of bird flu, our clinic protocols have changed when dropping off wild birds. Please do not enter the clinic with any wild birds. Instead, call the clinic upon arrival. Our team will guide you through the next steps.

‼️Please visit the Victorian Agriculture Website for further information regarding this outbreak, and see below for their recommendations on reporting cases of suspected bird flu:

Report clusters of 5 or more sick or dead wild birds of any species, anywhere in Victoria.

Report even one sick or dead:

- wild seabird, waterbird, shorebird or bird of prey
- marine mammal (e.g. seal, dolphin).
- Accurate reports help us respond quickly.

To report sick or dead poultry or livestock please call the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline immediately on 1800 675 888.

πŸ’™ FIV Prevention Starts with Awareness πŸ’™

FIV is a lifelong viral infection that affects a cat's immune system. Although many FIV-positive cats can enjoy a good quality of life, preventing infection remains the best approach.

Because FIV is most often spread through cat bites, simple preventative measures can make a big difference:

🐾 Keep cats safely contained
🐾 Ensure your cats' vaccinations are up-to-date
🐾 Desex cats to reduce fighting and roaming
🐾 Test cats before introducing them to multi-cat households
🐾 Seek veterinary attention for bite wounds and routine health checks

By taking steps to reduce the spread of FIV, we can help keep more cats healthy and protected.

This , the team at Dandenong Veterinary Hospital wants to pause and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land we live, work, and care for animals on, the lands of the Bunurong and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been the traditional custodians and healers of this Country and its incredible wildlife for tens of thousands of years. As veterinary professionals, we walk in deep respect of that enduring connection to land, sea, and community.

Today, and every day, we pay our respects to Elders past and present. 🐾🌱

🐱 Understanding FIV in Cats 🐱

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is a virus that affects a cat's immune system. While many FIV-positive cats can live happy lives for years with appropriate care, the virus is lifelong, and there is currently no cure. That's why prevention is so important. If you'd like to discuss FIV testing, vaccination, or your cat's risk factors, our team is happy to help.

🦷 Pet Dental Awareness 🐾

Did you know that dental disease is one of the most common health problems in dogs and cats? By the age of 3, many pets show signs of dental issues that can affect not only their teeth and gums but also their overall health.

Signs your pet may need a dental check-up:
βœ”οΈ Bad breath
βœ”οΈ Yellow or brown tartar buildup
βœ”οΈ Red or bleeding gums
βœ”οΈ Difficulty eating or chewing
βœ”οΈ Excessive drooling
βœ”οΈ Pawing at the mouth

Regular dental care helps prevent pain, infection, and more serious health complications. Brushing your pet's teeth, providing dental-friendly treats, and scheduling routine dental examinations are all important steps toward maintaining a healthy smile.

Book a dental health check with our team today and help keep your furry friend's teeth clean and healthy for years to come! 🐢🐱
