Happy 160th Birthday to the City of Melbourne Bowls Club!

Today we're not just celebrating a birthday.

We're celebrating 160 years of rolling bowls, raising glasses, sharing stories, making friends, and proving that good company never goes out of style.

Since 1866, Marvelous Melbourne has changed so much

Today we honour everyone who has been part of our story: The founders who got the ball rolling. The volunteers who kept it rolling. The members who continue to roll it today. The bloody amazing staff who are on a roll. And the friends and community who make this place special....

At 160 years young, we're not slowing down.

We're still making friends, supporting our community, welcoming new faces, and showing Melbourne that a bowls Club can be so much more than a place to play bowls.

Here's to our past, our present, and the next chapter of this wonderful club.

BPL Cup set to ignite PRINCES PARK CARLTON BOWLS CLUB

Local bowlers are set to battle it out on the green, as Princes Park Carlton Bowls Club hosts a Preliminary Round of the 2026 BPL Cup on Saturday 25th July 2026 from 10am.
Event Details:
• Date: Saturday, 25 July
• Time: 10:00 AM
• Location: Princes Park Carlton Bowls Club, Princes Park (northern tip, Carlton North)
• Entry Fee: $90 per team (3–4 players)
• Format: Two-bowl triples with two sets of 5 ends and a 1-end tie-breaker

As the world’s biggest club-based bowls competition, the BPL Cup is a key pathway competition, giving club bowlers the chance to experience the intensity and excitement of the Bowls Premier League (BPL) format.
Teams consist of three or four players, which can be made up of all male, female or mixed combinations, and games will include power plays, making for an engaging spectacle for both players and spectators.
Winning teams from Preliminary Rounds at local clubs progress to Regional Finals and then State Finals, with the ultimate goal being to win a trip to the BPL Cup National Final played in conjunction with BPL24 from Tuesday 10 -13 November 2026
Bowls clubs from across the country have embraced the opportunity to host these events, vying for the opportunity to attract new members, generate excitement by showcasing bowls in its most dynamic format, and providing their players with a pathway to the spotlight.

The BPL Cup continues to grow in popularity and is proving to be a major highlight on the Australian bowls calendar, appealing to both seasoned bowlers and newcomers.
Bowls Australia General Manager – Bowls Operations Andrew Howie said the continued growth of the BPL Cup highlighted the appetite for exciting formats that can grow the game at a club level.

“The BPL Cup is such a scintillating format of bowls that gives players of all ability and experience levels a taste of what it’s like to compete at the BPL,” Howie said.
“It doesn’t matter if you’ve played the game for 40 years or are just starting out, the BPL Cup is for everybody and a great way to have fun and test your skills.”
More clubs are encouraged to register as hosts for Preliminary Rounds to help grow grassroots participation in the sport while allowing players to develop their skills in a competitive but fun and inclusive setting.

Channel 7 will be televising Sunrise from Princes Park Carlton Bowls Club on Monday 6th of July. The club will be providing a Breakfast BBQ for those that rock up.
The first live cross over with Sam Mac starts at 5.45.

The Dream Run didn't have the happy ending we were looking for at Caulfield Park yesterday.
Congratulations to our opponents Doutta Galla and Brunswick. Dan ended up topping the Division 3 Player Ladder, having chalked up more wins than any other player in the division. We're pretty sure he would've gladly 'handballed' his Player of the Division accolade to have skipped and managed a winning side.
Well done Dan, and well done to all those who participated in the John Adams Winter Pennant season sporting a Princes Park Carlton Bowls Club Guernsey.

Tomorrow sees two Princes Park Carlton Bowls Club teams playing in the John Adams Winter Pennant Grand Final.
Our Division 3 side plays Brunswick whilst our Division 7 team plays Doutta Galla.
Good luck to all those representing our club at what promises to be a wonderful day on the green under the dome at Caulfield Park. This event is always a highlight of the bowls calendar in Melbourne with Fitzroy Victoria Bowling & Sports Club , Melbourne, Caulfield Park, Brunswick, Rosamond, Doutta Galla, East Ivanhoe Bowling Club INC , Alphington playing tomorrow.
Yes it promises to be a terrific day indeed.

We came away with two wins yesterday. So we'll be well represented at next Saturday's John Adams Winter Pennant Grand Final Day at Caulfield Park. No surprises that our Firsts chalked up another win. They've been the stand out team this season. However a special mention for our Thirds. They managed to 'scrape' into the Four after a slow start to the season and yesterday they beat the Top of the Ladder team who'd convincingly beat them the week before. It was an extraordinary achievement from our 'Dads Army' contingent.
A shout out to Doutta Galla, who once again provided 'refreshing' hospitality to all our Princes Park Carlton Bowls Club members.

Tomorrow sees all our teams playing Semi Finals in the John Adams Winter Pennant competition. It's been a wonderful achievement and selectors have managed to 'spread the love' over our three teams. Good luck to all those playing and sporting a Princes Park Carlton Bowls Club Guernsey tomorrow.

A few of our members gave 'stirring' acceptance speeches at our Presentation Night on Saturday evening.
Anthony Piazza spoke of how he was made to feel welcome and encouraged whilst accepting his Novice Champions trophy. David Buckley spoke of our club's special camaraderie and how playing with friends sees him going that extra yard on the green accepting his trophy. He won the club Pairs with Ian Cunliffe.
And Paul Jenkins
gave one of his stirring Churchillian speeches collecting his Club Champion award.
Again highlighting how special our club is, moreover having been promoted 3 divisions these last 4 seasons with our small membership base.
All three more or less reiterating what our members know too well.
Princes Park Carlton Bowls Club is a unique bowls club.
