Many thanks to Libby for presenting our petition to Parliament. Hoping for some action!!

The community has spoken. Now the Government needs to act.

More than 1,000 people have signed a petition calling for urgent action to tackle the spread of invasive arum lilies in the Ludlow Tuart Forest.

I was proud to present the 1,032 signature petition in Parliament last week on behalf of the community, the CWA Busselton and the Ludlow Tuart Forest Restoration Group.

Only around 3% of our original tuart forest remains. We cannot afford to stand by while invasive w**ds continue to threaten this precious ecosystem.

The Government needs to invest in a coordinated program to control arum lilies and support the community groups already doing the hard work to restore and protect our tuart forest.

Our community is doing its part. Now the Government needs to do theirs.

Concern is growing over the spread of invasive arum lilies, with a restoration group warning the w**d is threatening the health of the world’s last remaining tuart forest.

Members of the Ludlow Tuart Forest Restoration Group said arum lilies were competing with native vegetation for water and making it harder for tuart trees to regenerate.

The Tuart Forest, once rich in native plants and wildlife, is now under threat from the unchecked spread of Arum Lily. Introduced to WA as a garden plant in the 1800s, this declared pest has become a serious ecological problem, forming dense monocultures that displace native wildflowers, grasses, animals and birds.
Arum Lily also consumes large amounts of soil moisture, depriving native plants and regenerating tuart trees of vital water. Despite its pest status under Western Australian biosecurity laws, it continues to spread with limited action from government agencies and landowners.

CWA Busselton Branch in support of the Ludlow Tuart Forest Restoration Group’s work, call for government to prioritise Arum Lily removal, fund effective control measures, enforce policy, and back community-led restoration in the Ludlow State Forest and nearby public lands. Local efforts show control is possible, but they need recognition, support, funding and public awareness.
Please help protect the tuart forest by signing our e-petition. Thank you!

Please share it with family, friends and community groups—the more signatures, the stronger our call for government action.
