This family residence has gorgeous external brick walls in the living area, but every winter the room struggled to stay warm. The heating was on, yet all that warm air was rising straight up the stairwell instead of staying where the family actually lived.

Rather than treating each window as a separate decision, we looked at how the whole space functioned. Linen blend curtains with a little more body than a sheer dressed the windows beautifully, while a custom curved track across the hallway created a soft divide between the living area and the staircase.

Two nights later, my client sent me a message that made my week:
“The curtain is working beautifully.”

The room was staying warmer, the heating wasn’t working as hard and there’ll be energy savings to come.

That’s what thoughtful window furnishings can do. They don’t just finish a room. They change the way you live in it.

This Surrey Hills project came to us through a referral from a styling team, as our clients prepared their family home for sale.

They wanted to refresh the upstairs retreat and stairwell before the home went on the market.

Their first thought was to match the existing carpet, but after seeing the space, I suggested going with a Natural White instead. It instantly made everything feel lighter, brighter and more open, which is exactly what we wanted heading into the cooler months.

So we replaced the Roman blinds with soft, flowing curtains. It was a simple change, but it completely changed how those spaces felt.

Watching our clients see the finished result is always one of my favourite parts of the job. Sometimes it’s the smallest decisions that make the biggest difference.

Most people would look at this window and assume curtains weren’t an option.

The angled ceiling in this modern home meant there was no standard solution. Our client wanted the curtain to follow the ceiling line perfectly, while creating a bright, happy space for her daughter’s room.

So that’s exactly what we did.

A custom track was installed to mirror the angle of the ceiling, allowing the fabric to flow naturally with the architecture of the room. The cheerful botanical print was selected by our client and instantly brought personality, colour and joy into the space.

One of our favourite details?

The timber holdbacks weren’t sourced from a supplier. They were handmade by our incredibly talented client, whose background spans engineering, jewellery design and education. A beautiful reminder that the best interiors often reflect the people who live in them.

And this project wasn’t just about making a bedroom beautiful.

Struggling with heat, glare and poor sleep? This Surrey Hills home was too…

They already had plantation shutters, but the harsh western sun, winter chill and light sneaking through the louvres just weren’t working — especially with little ones trying to sleep.

Some suggested adding curtains inside the bay… but that would’ve blocked their beautiful outlook and natural light.

So we took a different approach.

We designed a custom bent track on the outside wall, paired with tailored box pleat curtains — so when open, they sit neatly back on the wall, not across the glass.

This meant they could still enjoy the view and daylight during the day and then close everything up when they needed warmth and darkness … and much better sleep for the whole family 💛
