๐Ÿ’ฌ Thinking about disability support but not sure where to start?

Finding the right support begins with understanding what matters most to you.

Before your first conversation with a disability support provider, here are 3 things worth considering:

โœ… What matters to you?Think about your daily routines, interests and the areas where you'd like support.

โœ… What's working, and what could be better?Consider what you'd like to continue, change or explore.

โœ… What would you like to ask?Write down your questions and remember, you can invite someone you trust to join the conversation.

At First Support Australia, we believe your choices, preferences and goals should be at the centre of every conversation. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ‘‰ Swipe through for a few helpful tips to get started.

Have questions about disability support? Send us a message. We'd be happy to have a conversation.

Your idea of a good day matters. ๐Ÿ’š

Maybe itโ€™s heading to the shops, a friendly game of cards, or getting absorbed in a favourite hobby.

Whatever it looks like for you, having a say in your day matters from what you do to how youโ€™re supported.

Our team takes time to understand your interests, your routines and the support you want. Because getting to know you is where meaningful support begins.

Whatโ€™s one thing you always look forward to in your day? Tell us below ๐Ÿ‘‡

Our team. One focus: getting support right.

An available room is only the beginning.

After a house inspection this morning, our team came together to discuss how we can prepare to support a new participant appropriately.

Before welcoming someone into a home, there is preparation behind the scenes from understanding their daily routines and preferences to reviewing staff experience, training needs and the home environment.

Our SIL, HR and housing teams, together with our Support Coordinators, each bring a different perspective to planning the right support. Where appropriate and with consent, this planning also involves the participant and relevant allied health or behaviour support professionals.

We take the time to ask the right questions, carefully review what is needed and put appropriate arrangements in place so our team is prepared to support the new participant.

Because choosing a home is about more than an empty bedroom. Itโ€™s about the person, the support they need and a team prepared to listen.

Real support starts with listening. ๐Ÿ’š

At First Support Australia, we take the time to understand what matters to each person. By working together with respect, choice and care, our Support Coordination team helps participants navigate their supports and work towards the goals that matter to them.

Here to listen. Here to support.

๐Ÿก Moving into a new home is a big step. Having support along the way matters.

โ€œWill my routines be understood?โ€
โ€œCan I make the space feel like mine?โ€
โ€œWho will be there to support me?โ€

These questions deserve time, attention and a conversation.

Hereโ€™s a glimpse of our team preparing a home and helping with the moving-in process. For us, that conversation starts with the person their preferences, everyday routines and support needs.

๐Ÿ’š Exploring Supported Independent Living (SIL) for yourself or someone you support? You donโ€™t need to have every question worked out before getting in touch.

Letโ€™s talk about what matters to you.

Yesterday, our First Support Australia team came together to recognise R U OK? Day ๐Ÿ’›

Through cupcakes, conversations and a little friendly crossword fun, we were reminded that checking in with someone can make a meaningful difference.

You donโ€™t need to have all the answers. Simply asking โ€œAre you OK?โ€, listening without judgement and staying connected can help someone feel seen, heard and supported.

Letโ€™s continue these conversations today and every day. ๐Ÿ’›

R U OK? Day is an important reminder to pause, check in with the people around us and start meaningful conversations.

You donโ€™t need to be an expert to ask someone if theyโ€™re OKโ€”a simple conversation can make a real difference.

By listening without judgement, giving someone our time and staying connected, we can help create a community where everyone feels supported, valued and seen.

Ask R U OK? Any Day. ๐Ÿ’›

Last Friday, the FSA team had the opportunity to attend the community program โ€œAI for Business Ownersโ€, connecting with business owners and professionals to learn more about the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence in everyday business operations.

Our GM, Hau Phan (Flora), joined the panel discussion and shared general examples of how AI can assist with routine business administration such as organising ideas, supporting planning and preparing first drafts with people remaining responsible for reviewing and finalising the work.

For FSA, the key message is that AI is a support tool, not a substitute for professional judgement, person-centred practice or decisions about supports. Any use of technology must be carefully considered and remain subject to privacy, confidentiality, information security, governance and existing compliance obligations.

It was also valuable to hear from Natalie Suleyman MP and other speakers about the changing role of AI and technology in Victorian businesses and communities.

Thank you to Mindtek, VietNews, VASIA and everyone involved in bringing this community learning opportunity together.

FSA will continue to learn and explore responsible, low-risk uses of technology while keeping people, quality, accountability and human oversight at the centre of our work.
