Across three days, OpenField transforms Berry into a place of creativity and discovery, with art taking many different forms in spaces right across town.

More than 155 artists and participants brought OpenField to life at our last festival - filling Berry with ideas, installations, performances, conversations and unexpected moments.

Now, a new OpenField is beginning to take shape.

Behind the scenes, we're busy building our 2027 program and we can't wait to introduce you to the artists and creative minds who will help bring it to life.

OpenField isn’t contained within four gallery walls. For three days, Berry itself becomes the canvas.

Contemporary art, installations and performances appear throughout the town - taking over historic buildings, familiar spaces and places you might never expect to encounter art.

From the Berry Courthouse and historic Museum to the CWA building, Berry School of Arts and Berry Showground Grandstand… and yes, even the entire main street.

It creates a truly immersive festival experience. You don’t simply arrive at OpenField - you wander through it.

Turn a corner. Step inside a building. Follow a sound. Look up. Discover something unexpected.

And along the way, experience the beautiful town of Berry from an entirely different perspective.

OpenField 2027 might still be a little way off… but behind the scenes, things are well and truly underway.

A few snaps from our photoshoot over the weekend as we begin creating the hero artwork for our 2027 curatorial theme.

Ideas are taking shape, creativity is flowing, and we're getting very excited about what lies ahead.

So... what exactly is contemporary art?
It's one of the questions we're asked most often!

Contemporary art is simply art being created by artists today. It doesn't have to be a painting hanging on a gallery wall. It might be a sculpture in a paddock, a dance performance, a giant installation, a video projection, music, or something that invites you to stop, think, smile or even ask questions.

Unlike traditional art, contemporary art often encourages conversation rather than giving you all the answers. There isn't always a "right" way to interpret it. What you see, feel and experience is just as important as the artist's intention.

At OpenField, we love bringing contemporary art out of galleries and into the streets, showgrounds and unexpected places around Berry, making it fun, accessible and welcoming for everyone.

You don't need to know anything about art to enjoy it. Just bring your curiosity.

One of the things we love most about OpenField is seeing contemporary art through the eyes of children.

Watching young people explore, ask questions, discover new ideas and realise that art can be playful, thought-provoking and found in the most unexpected places is one of the festival's greatest joys.

OpenField was created to make contemporary art accessible to everyone. It's a place where families can explore together, spark conversations, and create lasting memories.

Best of all, the majority of the festival is FREE, making it an inspiring and affordable day out for all ages.

The newly released OpenField 2025 Festival Report captures the energy, creativity and collective effort behind last year’s festival - which brought together more than 4,000 visits across 14 venues and more than 60 events throughout Berry.

From large-scale installations and performances to the First Nations Hub, Art Parade, OpenField by Night and the Discotheque, the report offers a look back at a festival shaped by collaboration, experimentation and community.

Long before OpenField brought installations, performances, conversations and late-night dance floors to Berry, it began as a simple but ambitious idea from artist, musician and OpenField Co-Founder Lenka Kripac - that a regional town could become a place for bold contemporary art, connection and creative exchange.

As Lenka passes the creative reins to Co-Founder Amelia Ramsden and turns more of her focus toward her own creative projects and music, we wanted to acknowledge her enormous contribution and thank her for helping bring OpenField to life.

We chat to Lenka about what she is most proud of from her work with OpenField and her current, exciting projects.
