A SERVE OF FRIENDLY COMPETITION!

Year 8 HEALTH & PE took to the volleyball courts last Monday, with Home Groups going head-to-head in a fun and energetic competition!

Beyond the serves, rallies and skills development, the competition is a great opportunity for students to build connections, strengthen friendships and enjoy some good-natured rivalry with their peers.

Congratulations to 8C, who came out on top, and well done to every Year 8 student who stepped onto the court, gave it their best and got involved!

Great energy, great teamwork and plenty of Year 8 spirit!

Our friends from the LIZARD WIZARD, Monique (Class of 2016) and Ryan, were back with us on Monday to teach our Year 7 students about the beautiful reptiles and wildlife in their care, what each animal needs to survive, and their important role in our environment!

"Our Year 7 students loved the sessions and were excited to get up close to a variety of fascinating animals. It was wonderful to see some students overcome their fears and grow in confidence as they interacted with the creatures. Throughout the morning, students met blue-tongued lizards, bearded dragons, and green tree frogs, and many were thrilled to hold an albino python. However, the clear favourite was the adorable sugar glider, which quickly won everyone's hearts. The hands-on experience sparked curiosity, encouraged respect for wildlife and provided a memorable and fitting way to conclude Science Week."

Wishing our Intermediate Girls Division 2 football team all the best for the HERALD SUN SHIELD ROUND ROBIN today!

This is an historic event for Mater Christi, as it marks the first time an MCC team has been selected to participate. This achievement reflects the exceptional skill and talent of the students on this team.

The Herald Sun Shield AFL competition is Victoria’s premier interschool football championship. Now in its 48th year, it brings together the top teams from Catholic, Independent, and Government schools, including last year's champions: Rowville Secondary College, Parade College, and Melbourne Girls' Grammar.

Anyone who would like to support the team can head to Casey Fields Oval / 2. The team is playing two games in a row, at 12.00pm and 1.00pm.

Our staff love a good dress-up day, especially when it's BOOK WEEK!
Even our Facilities and Ed Support teams get in on the fun!

Our lovely Learning Commons crew threw us all a delicious morning tea, with the chance to take a few photo booth selfies!

It's only DAY 2 of BOOK WEEK, but there's already loads to report on, with games and activities running every day in the Learning Commons.

Yesterday began with a Book Bingo Draw, Bring a Book and Bling It, and a display of our recent Graphic Novel Competition Entries.

Then today it was DRESS UP DAY, with arguably the largest number of both staff and students dressing up that we've ever seen!

The judges of our Book Week Fashion Parade, Ms Waite and Mrs Jay, had a tough job choosing the winners, but they managed in the end.

A big shout out to our Learning Commons staff, Ms Isma and Ms Ryan, for orgnanising all the activities and for their incredibly creative decorations!

CONGRATULATIONS to Mya C (Year 9), who recently represented the CGSAV at the APS Winter Representative competition.

Mya finished 5th amongst her fellow CGSAV teammates and 24th overall in the competition. A fantastic achievement in a highly competitive field of nearly 40 students.

GRAND FINAL PLACE FOR ALL MCC SOCCER TEAMS & VICTORY FOR OUR SENIORS!

Our students had an incredible day at the CGSAV SOCCER COMPETITION last week, with every team making it through to the Grand Final in their respective age groups.

Although our JUNIOR and INTERMEDIATE narrowly missed out on a final win, they gave it absolutely everything on the field. Their effort, teamwork and sportsmanship were absolutely fantastic.

Our Senior team delivered an outstanding Grand Final performance—dominating their opponents and bringing home the win! ⚽ 👏 👏

A huge congratulations to our Senior team for becoming CGSAV Champions, and a special shoutout to Aletta M, who was named Best Grand Final Player and Matilda C, who was awarded Best Grand Final Player in the Junior Grand Final.

What an amazing day of soccer well done, girls!

Our SCIENCE WEEK - MEET A SCIENTIST EXPO was a huge success today at lunchtime, with hundreds of our budding Scientists and STEM enthusiasts taking the opportunity to speak to experts from a range of different scientific industries.

Our thanks to all the dedicated Scientists (including some Mater Christi alumnae) who came along to share their knowledge and passion for their chosen field.

There were certainly lots of sparks flying in our students' minds as they explored the displays and asked their burning questions.

EVER WANTED TO LEARN THE DRUMS? Come and learn from an expert!

Our resident Drums tutor, Dave, is a seasoned professional drummer who first picked up the sticks 28 years ago. He has recorded on several Australian records, including ARIA #1 albums and Australian country radio #1 singles. He tours regularly and records with artists both in Australia and overseas.

Dave’s love for the drums stems from his belief that they are the foundation of where a song needs to go.

“Drums play a big role in shaping the feel and direction of the music, which makes them really fun to play.”

While remote drumming sessions and playing in national and international shows keep Dave busy, he takes great joy in teaching and sharing his experience and knowledge with others.

“I really enjoy seeing students build confidence over time. Whether it’s learning their first beat or playing along to a full song, those small wins add up quickly. Every student is different, so it keeps things interesting and rewarding.”
