Guess what's back this winter! ❄️

Come and join us for the historic and iconic Belgrave Lantern Parade on June 20, from 3pm to 8pm ✨ Parade to start as the sun goes down approx 5.20 pm -530 pm

This event is so much bigger than Belgrave. It is a celebration of collective creativity, solidarity, care and joy. A literal and figurative beacon of light during the darkest reaches of the year.

Each year, the streets, alleyways and public spaces of Belgrave are transformed into vibrant playgrounds of dancing light, music, art and creativity.

More than:

🏮 20+ community groups
🎓 3,500+ local school students
🎭 5 major youth groups
🏪 100 local shop owners
..all contribute their unique essence to an event that continues to strengthen and shape our local identity.

In 2026, youth-activated spaces and creative precinct pop-ups will take festivalgoers throughout Belgrave to discover live music, workshops, circus arts, DJs, food trucks, fire pits and more.

The Belgrave Lantern Parade represents this township’s commitment to community, inclusivity, creativity and supporting young people through free, safe and accessible events.

Shoutout to best electrician ever -
Simon Shockfree Electrical

We got the call from our team Thursday 5am to say our power was out
After we checked all the usual issues of tripped circuits we called Simon and he arrived at the Blacksmith at 7:05 AM

He assisted the SPAusnet guys disconnect power at 9:30am

He then spent the day rewiring a brand new switchboard

Waiting for the inspector and then assisted the SPAusnet guys reconnect the mains at 11:15pm - he left the Blacksmith at 11:55pm

Yes, he was there for 17 hours!

And back again today for more re-wiring work. Thank you Simon you are a lifesaver

🔍 The City Nature Challenge is back, bringing together cities from across the world to see who can record the most observations of plants, animals and fungi over four days.

This year, Yarra Ranges is teaming up with 32 other Melbourne Councils to take part.

Getting involved is easy:

📸 Take photos of wild plants, animals or fungi in the Yarra Ranges between Friday, 24 April and Monday, 27 April
⬆️ Upload your observations to iNaturalist and they’ll automatically be added to the challenge

You can snap photos on your phone or upload images from a camera via the website. You can even record sounds.
Whether you’re out for a walk, in your backyard, or exploring local bushland, every observation counts.

PSA there will be more interruptions to our normal service due to ongoing scheduled power outages.

THURSDAY 23rd April 7am to 9.30am.
These are Ausnets best guesses so its a bit of a lottery. The previous outage for Sunday 22nd March was "cancelled" so we ended up only losing power for an hour. Maybe in part 'cos the Ausnet workers came in asking for coffee and we had to let them know we could only make them coffee when they turned our power back on! (True story!) First world problems I know
