Great to be back onboard the Top Hat 25 “Freecloud” for an Insurance Survey. She is well maintained and hard to imagine that she won’t last forever.

It was great to be back onboard the Beneteau Oceanis 34 “Makani” for a Pre Purchase Survey. I have fond memories of a dream delivery voyage from Beauty Point to Hobart with a night at Freycinet. The survey allowed me to take a detailed look at the boat and she was in great condition.

A Pre Purchase Survey of a Northshore 33. We were lucky to get our sailing between blows that seem to be the norm at the moment.

Chipboard. Despite high expectations particle board, chipboard and MDF has proven to be unsuitable for boat building. Valiant efforts have been made to soak it in thinned epoxy but water in the long term penetrates further than the resin.
This photo shows its use as a substrate on a timber deck alongside marine plywood. The contrast between the two is clear.

The Pre Purchase Survey of the XP-32 “IYKYK” (if you know you know) extended into an assisted delivery to Sydney.
The boat was in great condition with light use and good maintenance over its life. It is certainly a yacht for sailors revealing, even on delivery, some spirited performance.
The new owner pulled together a lovely crew of which it was a pleasure to be a part of and as the wind ripped through the trees last night it was good to know we were not at sea.
I’m looking forward to following its racing campaign this summer.

Great to revisit the Hallberg Rassy 39 “Terra Nova” for a Pre Purchase Survey today. A yacht built to a high standard that was in even better condition than just three years ago. That doesn’t happen often.
