Roman blinds in some very special fabrics indeed. The Colefax & Fowler embroideries are beautifully detailed and have become the main focus in each room.

My beautiful Lucy is Miss June. She made it into The Shetland Sheepdog Club of Victoria photo competition yet again. This photo was taken a few years ago as she was running through the grass, happy and free with the wind in her hair. This post is a bit late as I was away at the beginning of June when I should have posted it. Sorry Lucy. 💗

Our last day in Europe finished up in Rome. One last chance to be immersed in the wonderful Roman architecture. We walked the whole day and covered a fair part of the city. I have this thing where I have to see everything and just keep walking. Being starving we had an early dinner and I had the most amazing fish at a restaurant near the Piazza del Popolo. The fish was covered with thin slices of potato with simply lemon and oil on top. What a way to end an incredible adventure.

Pompeii is fascinating to visit. It’s incredible how well preserved some of the buildings and frescoes are. We had an amazing guide take us to the prominent areas and explain the story of Pompeii. It’s such a large site that really we only saw a fraction of it. They are still excavating ruins so it’s a good excuse to go back again one day.

Here is a taste of what we saw in Naples. Vibrantly coloured buildings in the old town which is where the Duomo is, which is quite an amazing church. The Galleria Umberto I is reminiscent of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan and there are some lovely buildings in the nearby area. The waterfront was lovely to stroll at dusk and as you look out to the water you can see Mount Vesuvius in the distance. Can you guess our next destination?

Positano at dusk and evening is magical as the house lights glisten and shops shine. A pre dinner drink at a hotel with amazing bougainvillea growing on the walls and ceiling was a real treat, then finished off with a special dinner on the beach (and a complementary glass of limoncello at the end).

Positano is so captivating. Crystal clear water, colourful houses perched on hills, masses of bougainvillea flowers, and so many dress shops I got dress fatigue. There were also soo many stairs. I didn’t realised this when I booked our accommodation (that has amazing views)at the top of the hill which took over 300 steps and many sloping paths to get to!

Matera in the late afternoon pink light, then as the lights start to come on and by evening all the buildings glow against a midnight blue sky. I could have stayed here a week taking photos at different times of the day and night as the light constantly changes. Night time here is quite special.

Matera is so fascinating and I loved the limestone buildings and caves. We got to stay in a cave hotel, dine in cave restaurants and explore cave churches.

This ancient city is unlike anything I have seen before. It is Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cave dwellings are carved out of the mountainside. It was a great city to explore and capture images of. So many steps and hills were walked over two and a half days. So hopefully I walked off all the cakes I had for breakfast each day!
