Meet printmaker Ruth Stanton this Saturday for Ruth Stanton ‘Undercurrents’ Exhibition.
You can view the exhibition online now or in the gallery Wed-Sat 11am- 4pm this week and next week.

Exhibition Dates
19th August - 5th September

Undercurrents is an exhibition of etchings and ceramics spanning ten years of work. Drawing inspiration from the rich history of ceramics, detailed aquatint etchings of ceramic vessels reimagine their decoration, and the landscapes of their journeys from kilns to homes.

The use of a variety of etching and printing techniques including:
aquatint, chine collé, multi-plate, and monotype, allow the ink to portray the smooth surfaces of glazed pots, the gritty texture of sand and organic flow of water, giving a tactility to the prints.

The ceramics depicted represent more than crafted objects, they are vessels of memory, fragments of landscape and place. Through them the viewer is invited to imagine their stories and consider the unseen currents of memory that flow beneath the surface of everyday objects.

Undercurrents reflects a deep longing to connect.

Over the past couple of years FPS has worked hard to update and improve our organisational structure. This has included obtaining a new ABN, updating our Associations Model Rules, successfully registering with the ACNC to obtain our Charitiy status, and refining our policies and procedures for better efficiency.

We thank our current President, Secretary and Vice President for their roles in helping us achieve so much and acknowledge that they have earned their right to step aside from their committee roles in the knowlegde that they have made a difference. We sincereily thank our treasurer and those staying on as general committee members for their ongoing commitment to remain on our committee.

Now our Incorporated Organisation with Charity Status, a strong team of devoted employees who work closely with our treasurer, and our record number of members, is ready to enter into the next chapter.

Be a part of a committee eager to see FPS grow from strength to strength.
Our committee plays a vital role and we need some of our loyal members/supporters to please step forward and help us continue to provide our actively inclusive, joyful community print studio, and our presentation of a high standard of contemporary printmaking.

The Firestation Print Studio thanks the City of Stonnington for supporting the following PRINT CLUB programs and events:

1 Friday LinoClub per month 10am - 1pm

1 Saturday morning Reduction LinoClub (intermediate Lino technique) per month 9.30am - 12.30pm

Print Clubs support promotion and celebration of arts programs with a wide audience. These programs promote the City of Stonnington as a creative destination for community residents and those outside the boundaries and connects communities through equitable, inclusive and accessible creative practice. Lino Club supports all local creative individuals and their growth as artists - including people experiencing vulnerability.

PLEASE NOTE: Our Print Clubs are not teaching sessions, participants need to have some knowledge of the technique prior to attending. Advice from supervisors is on hand and fellow participants are often keen help out too. If you are wanting to learn this technique please book a workshop or a 1:1 tutorial - email us at [email protected] to book.

BLACK RELIEF PRINTING INK PROVIDED

You bring whatever you like to work on, and you may use the presses. It’s very social, with lots of laughs. You learn a lot from others and teach others too. Those new to printmaking work alongside established printmakers.
REMEMBER - closed toed shoes only in print studios.

The Writing on the Wall exhibition invites FPS Members to produce prints that incorporate and hero text. Used on its own or incorporated with other imagery.

How can I add text? Letterpress, Collage, Inscribed in the plate, Monoprinted, Stamps, be inventive!

REMEMBER: All works must be original hand made prints, no digital / photographic prints.

Entries Due and Artworks to be Delivered by: 27th August 2026

Who Can Enter: This exhibition is open to FPS Members only. You can sign up for membership from as little as $55 for remote artists

Sizing and Limits: Must be no more than 1m in any direction including any framing. Any unframed works MUST not be mounted in anyway as they will be hung with magnets. For this exhibition we will accept 2D works only.

Work must have been made within the last 24 months and not shown prior in the FPS Gallery.
