subnetAIR – HANNA HOFMANN | Meet the artist: Wednesday, October 28th | 5 PM

@ HCI – Division for Human-Computer Interaction,
Techno-Z Salzburg Bauteil V, Jakob-Haringer-Straße 8, 5020 Salzburg

It’s our pleasure to welcome our Octobers subnetAIR, Hanna Hofmann! Wednesday, October 28th, she will present her project and talk about her work.

ABOUT
Hanna Hofmann project explores parallels between the Alpine tradition of Perchten and the Japanese Setsubun or Oni rituals – two cultural practices that use masks, sound, and collective performance to banish evil and mark transition. Through an experimental short film and audiovisual installation, she aims to connect these traditional gestures of cleansing and renewal with contemporary digital culture: What does it mean today to “drive away demons” when our ghosts live in data, networks, and inherited myths?
This project has plans of filming key rituals and scenes during the Rauhnächte 2025/26 in the Baverian mountains, focusing on the Schnabelpercht – a bird-like figure that sweeps away evil – and the Tengu, its Japanese counterpart. Both figures are being created based on scientific and also artistic research into craft, culture and superstition. The masks, outfits and scenes will be the outcome of this first phase.

Hanna Hofmann is a designer & artist working at the intersection of language, perception, and technology. With a background in visual communication, she creates research-based artworks using code, sound, and interactive installations to explore hidden systems—translating complex ideas into accessible experiences. Through data-driven visuals, generative processes, and immersive environments, she invites audiences to engage with the unseen structures shaping our understanding of the world.

The time has come, our jury has decided.
Thank you for all the outstanding applications.
In short, here are the 3 artists our jury has decided on.

Klemens Hegen - Sounds of Disappearing Landscapes

Sounds of Disappearing Landscapes is an artistic research project that builds on his previous work exploring the relationship between humans, the environment and technology. It is conceived as the starting point for a new series of sculptures. At the core of the project is the question of how our relationship with and perception of the environment change when elements threatened with extinction as a result of human-induced climate change are artificially recreated.

Sofia Talanti - Cyborgs of Adaption under the Capitalocene

Building on her previous work with speculative soft robotics and cyborg figures PSY000T3, this project continues an investigation into how subjectivity is shaped through technological and infrastructural systems. Rather than approaching the cyborg as a futuristic or exceptional hybrid, the project focuses on it as an already existing condition: a form of everyday adaptation to systems of extraction, acceleration, and optimization that structure contemporary life.

Krystina Cyan - Digital Ghosts: Operational Bodies

Digital Ghost: Operational Bodies is an artistic research project investigating how computational systems construct, interpret, and govern contemporary forms of identity. The project explores the growing condition in which individuals are increasingly represented not through lived experience alone, but through continuously generated digital profiles composed of behavioral patterns, predictive models, biometric indicators, and algorithmic classifications.

Congratulations to and ! We're happy to welcome you in Salzburg next year.

Over the next few weeks, we'll introduce the next year's Artists in Residence one by one and share more about their work, so stay tuned!

TRACY REDHEAD | Wednesday, JUNE 17TH | 6 PM
@ HCI – Division for Human-Computer Interaction,
Techno-Z Salzburg Bauteil V, Jakob-Haringer-Straße 8, 5020 Salzburg

TALK:
"Songwriting as a System: The Semantic Machine, a Song That Changes with the World Around You"
Tracy Redhead presents The Semantic Machine, a mobile-app artwork and transmutable song that changes according to the listener’s location, time of day, and weather. Developed in collaboration with Florian Thalmann, the work explores how a recorded song can remain authored and recognisable while shifting through data-responsive musical, lyrical, and visual variations. Framed as a speculative artwork about personal data and algorithmic personalisation, the talk considers songwriting as a system: a way of composing songs that are responsive, plural, and shaped by changing contexts.

SPEAKER:
Tracy Redhead is a musician, composer, songwriter, and researcher working across recorded music, interactive technologies, and creative practice. Her work explores how recorded music can become dynamic, adaptive, and context-aware, informed by her practice as a recording artist and her research into songwriting, data, interaction, and transmutable music.

Worum geht’s?

Jause bitte mitbringen!

Zum Abschluss bringen wir die Roboter zum Tanzen (Danceocon) oder Kämpfen (Hebocon) (Sonntag: 17 Uhr).

subnetAIR – LYRA ROBINSON | Meet the artist: Wednesday, May 20th | 5 PM

@ HCI – Division for Human-Computer Interaction,
Techno-Z Salzburg Bauteil V, Jakob-Haringer-Straße 8, 5020 Salzburg

It’s our pleasure to welcome our Mays subnetAIR, Lyra Robinson! Wednesday, April 20th, she will present her project and talk about her work.

ABOUT
Lyra Robinson is aiming to develop a new body of work exploring the OpenWorm simulation – an open-source computational model of Caenorhabditis elegans, a 1mm nematode worm with exactly 302 neurons.
This microscopic organism has been fundamental to biological research for over 50 years; every synapse mapped, every cell division documented. It is perhaps the most thoroughly known organism on Earth.
Working with OpenWorm’s neural simulation (c302) and physics engine (Sibernetic), she will create speculative modifications to the worm’s body plan and neural architecture – generating impossible worms, alien morphologies, tentacled variations that push against biological constraints.
What happens when we give C. elegans the body plan of hypothetical organisms on Jupiter’s ice moons? What does a worm look like when its neural topology is rewired for environments that don’t exist?

Lyra Robinson (b. 2002) is a transmedia artist whose work spans performance, installation, and video.
Her practice is concerned with the mechanisms through which bodies are read, understood, and made legible in her interactions with surveillance technologies and data gathering. She explores the possibilities for disrupting established knowledge systems to imagine new forms of embodied agency.
